Well, we bit the bullet and got a new truck. I knew when Chevy came out with the 6.6 engine (gas) I wanted one.
Likes - Obviously the bigger engine. It is very noticeable in power. Very quick response. The 10 speed Allison is smooth in its shifting. It has the large screen which I do like, but it's going to take some getting use to. Like the 40-20-40 front seat. It has the configurable digital dash - I like it but it's one more thing to go wrong. The storage in the rear seat backs is nice. While it did not come with the in the bed 7 pin receptacle, there is a blank in place that can be removed to put in the aftermarket one. I am getting the Curt one from eTrailer. The only drilling required is the 4 self tapping screws to hold it in place. I like the power folding mirrors - never had them before. Power sliding rear window is a big plus. The bed is about 4 inches longer so I need a new Tonneau cover (Suggestions welcome). The inside width of the bed is increased also - several inches. They closed up the gap between the inner bed walls and the outer shell. Cameras to see everything. The added payload is great - 3476 according to my door sticker, and 18380 trailer weight.

Dislikes - NO DC POWER PORTS (cigarette lighter ports). Apparently GM stopped them a couple of years ago. The work around is the USB-C port. It has enough power for things like GPS, Rear camera monitor and stuff. I do not understand why they removed them. No Flat 4 pin receptacle. Again, you can buy an adapter but.... Why? In the place of the 4 pin are RCA like ports for a trailer camera - which is wired (Not for me).

Overall I really like the truck. Looks good outside and in. I was able to get one with the 18" tires and wheels. I just don't like going to the 20". The cast aluminum wheels are better than the chrome plated ones which were a bear to keep up with. Snowy road driving? We'll see. We have to make a 20 mile trip to watch my youngest grandsons Christmas parade today and the roads are snow covered.

Ford also doesn't have a plethora of power ports, although they do have a cigarette lighter port on the dash. But I end up having to put in a USB adapter. Go figure...

Nice payload for a 3/4 ton. Interesting that it didn't come with a 7 pin receptacle; nice that it plugs directly to your trucks wiring.

Bed cover.... Roll-n-Lock. I've had 3 or 4. Great cover and even better customer support. That is if you want a hard / secure cover. Just gotta fork over the bucks... ;)

I do not understand GMC/Chevy not putting the 4 prong plug and 7 way on the bumper. Factory setup is the 7 way with the video hook up (if you got that option) on the bumper, and the 4 prong with the 7 way in the bed. What a mess for people that tow small trailers also and needs to use an adapter (me). There is an aftermarket wire harness kit that switches the plugs to put the video in the bed, and the 4 way on the bumper.

They did away with the cigarette plug in '24 with the new electrical system. Lots of grumbling on the forums on that.

The auto 4 wheel drive is great in the snow. Drive any speed, and it does pretty good.

I just got a 2025 Sierra 3500 Denali. I had 2020 2500 with a canister roll top. Didn't like the space it took up in front of bed.(also had bedslide which took up space) Had a TT and upgraded(??) to fifth wheel, so this time I got a hard roll up that rolls up on top of rails and straps to front. GM Accessories had 25% off. Dealer installed for a decent price

? Auto 4 wheel drive? I'm unsure on that in my truck. The "Mode" selector shows nothing about auto 4WD. However - I did notice that on the Driver info Center (They need to change that name so that I can use the initials in good conscience) - it will show 2 Hi Normal and 2Hi Off Road. Same for 4 Hi. I is the 4Hi normal Auto 4WD maybe? The last truck I had - that had Auto 4WD was a 2015 1500.

I am not sure which models and years have it. On my '23 3500 it has a fourth button labeled "Auto", and a 4WD auto light will come on in the dash. As I understand it, the computer will engage the front axle, but will only direct power to it if needed. There is no restriction on speeds or types of surfaces when in auto, just minor loss of mpg. I put the truck into the auto 4wd in crappy weather when I am pulling the trailer.

4Hi is definitely not auto 4wd. I think the auto is pretty close to the Subaru 4wd system.

There are 2 models of transfer cases. 1 with auto and 1 without. You have the one without auto. Also if the truck had any of the tow packages you would of got the trailer plugs. How does it Tow your 31 mb ?

I can't say for the gas version, but for the diesel, tows great.

Couple of thoughts on what you want to do. First, for me, the 2500 would be too small in payload for your future upgrade, unless you get the max tow version that is basically a 3500 in 2500 clothing. I know for the 3500 diesel, the tranny has different programing, you get the overload springs*, and the rear diff is larger (unlike previous years). I currently tow my trailer at 14,900 lbs., with 500 lbs left on payload. My trailer has a 16,800 GVWR, but with upgrades at the factory during production, it has a 18,000 lb GVWR, and I personally have said, if I get around the 16,000 lb area or above, I will go for a dually.

* Overload springs are on both gas and diesel 3500.

The 2500 and 3500 are the same size, same ride comfort, and usually about $1K difference.

I have not towed the camper yet, just my utility trailers. Heck, I don't even have the rails and hitch in yet, but I expect it to tow better than my previous 2019 2500HD which pulled ok. A local Autobody repair shop owned by a friend will do the install of the rails. He's the only local I would trust and has done them. One thing that surprised me is the ride is somewhat better, not as harsh. When I do tow I will try to do an update.
