No power to backup camera

Can’t see the signatures in mobile format, but if it’s a newer GM truck an adapter is required.

Or if your vehicle has mandatory daytime running lights like we do in the great white north, you’ll always have power!
I don't quite understand how DRLs on the tow vehicle will power the RV camera if it is tied into the running lights on the RV? My truck has DRLs and I still need to turn on the parking lights in order to power the camera.

The camera is powered from your truck via the trailer running lights.
It won’t work with lights on in truck either . There’s no power going to the pre installed hook up for camera . But the camera is new and works when we plug it into the extra cord inside truck. The tech said it needs an adapter because some trucks don’t send enough voltage to it . Does that sound right?

Turn your truck lights on or put a fuse between the running light and 12V pin on the trailer plug.
It is not getting power to the pre installed camera hook up. Even with truck on and everything. Also checked all fuses and breakers they r good. The tech said an adapter would make it work. But I’m open to all helpful comments.

Probably referring to this adapter. My last two trucks have required this to view the camera.

If the truck is a GM product it does.

From the OP's picture it looks like this is a Transcend travel trailer. Does that make a difference with respect to the GM adapter posts? I just don't understand how a camera connected to the parking lights on the RV needs an adapter at the harness to work? If the lights are lit, they are getting power, therefore, the camera would be getting power. What does the adapter even do? Just curious...

GM pulse modulates the signal for the lights. Lights don’t mind pulsing power, but cameras generally aren’t happy with it.

Well that’s correct related to my Haloview camera. I installed a small device they (Haloview) sells that steps up the voltage to just over 13 volts. Camera operates fine but….
You stated that you have no voltage at all at the wiring for the camera. Sounds like someone forgot to connect those to the trailer light.

Do the trailer lights function when plugged in to the 7 pin cord? I’m guessing they do.

Can you confirm for the group what truck you have? If it isn't GM, then that may rule out the voltage/adapter issue.

If there is no power to the pre-installed camera wiring, the first place I would start is to pull the backing plate off so you can see exactly how it is wired (or not). Depending on the specific unit, it's a pretty tight fit for the wiring and caps. On my 22MLE and 23LDE I used a small blade on my oscillating tool to widen the opening so that I could properly wire my camera. But mine is a third party camera that uses a different type of connection, so I had to rewire. You just need to be able to verify that the wires are connected properly. If this isn't something you can do yourself, you may need to bring it to someone else.

I had this problem too. Ended up that someone at the factory forgot to tie the electrical into the trailer lights from the mount. I just did it myself. Works fine.

Why is there no power going to back up camera? Breakers and fuses are all good .
If you have a GMC or Chevy, they use a power management system. Without the modification to the trailer lamp module or the Lippert adapter, the camera will not work. This is on 2019 and newer GMCs. Not sure if the newer GMCs have had this problem corrected.
