NPS/Yamaha generators

Am I late to the party with this? Noticed GD is putting these in Momentums

Thats big. Much quieter than the Onan. Uses about half the fuel. Inverter/pure sine power. Onan will finally have to improve.

No propane option yet though

Yeah, Forest River has exclusive rights to those gennies for the first year or two, now has opened up to anyone.

Momentum started putting them in some 2024 models (sometime over Summer 2023).

That's right, I knew they looked familiar. I don't remember that specs being as favorable, or maybe they readily weren't available then.

How are they working out? Are they much quieter than the Onans?

This is not the first time I've read comments about the "noisy" Onan generators. Maybe we just got a good one, but I can barely hear ours from a couple feet way. And can only hear a murmur inside the trailer. Of course we run ours with the generator front cover on, and the storage door closed.

I have one also. I'm not necessarily saying its noisy, especially inside the unit. Barely hear it at a couple feet though is a stretch, at least for the ones I have heard. The spec's say that the NPS is 6 decibels quieter at 10' at 1/2 load, which is quite a bit. It also supposedly uses less than half the fuel of a Onan QG5500, .27 to .6 gallons per hour at 1/2 load. That's a big difference.

I just wonder if they are all that? A Yamaha engine is a plus though.

Our 2024 415g came with the Yamaha unit. I have 8 hours on it and has been flawless. Barely can tell its running from the inside. The unit once the cover is removed appears easier to work on and service than what I remember with the Onan. Noise comparison is too hard for me to compare and notice much difference. In those 8 hrs it used about 3 gallons. I plan on doing a more accurate fuel usage test in the future.

Hi, I'm looking at a 2024 415G with the Yamaha generator. On my walk through today, I noticed that the generator does not power the microwave (no electricity going to it; the display is blank). The microwave does, however, work with shore power. The PDI tech thought that maybe GD didn't wire the microwave circuit to the generator, which makes no sense to me.

Any chance you could confirm whether or not your microwave receives power when solely running on the generator?

The generator powers the entire rig. What he failed to check was the two circuit breakers on the generator itself. For whatever reason it may sometimes trip one of them. Remove the front panel on the generator and you'll see the 2 of them. Make sure they are both reset and it will work. I've ran the microwave and 2 ACs all at once with no issues.

Ah, I appreciate it! I will have him check the breakers. Another question for you -- when I go to shore power, do I have to flip those breakers off and vice versa when I want to be solely on the generator? Or can I keep those breakers on all the time no matter what?

On all time so it's ready to go. There is an automatic transfer switch wired in so it will kick over to shore power or generator automatically.

You rock, thank you!
No problem. And don't be discouraged by the basement storage. I took down the rear carpeted wall and recounted it with a notch removed to go around the toilet down pipe. It freed up enough room that I fit my 2 burner Blackstone and the folding legs stand, plus folding chairs and outdoor carpet with room to spare.
Here's an after pic.

My wife and I just purchased a 415g. So they blocked off the majority of the basement storage because of a sewer pipe? Could you post a picture from the other side? Have you had any issues so far with your unit or anything that I need to go over? Thank you

I don't have a picture at the moment from the other side but the wet bay panel takes up alot of room there so nothing has been changed.
As far as issues all we had were some screws that were over torqued and were broken so I replaced them with larger ones supplied by my dealer's shop. They were random trim screws on the outside like the slide flanges and such.
Only other things were that the factory mounted one of the exterior marker lights upside down so it filled with water and shorted out. And the stair motion light inside would flicker instead of staying. Both lights were put in for warranty by my dealer and replaced free of charge.
We've owned ours since last January and so far have gone NJ to FL to NJ to VA Beach to NJ to MA, to CT, to NJ to OBX NC, and back to NJ. About 6k miles or so. Everything else with the rig has been great and we love the spacious floorplan and large garage to fit 3 bikes and a Golf cart.
So far for other mods I added 2 more rocker switches in the main panel so that the lighting is now split 3 ways, left slide, right slide, and center. And I added a rear switch in the back panel to power the cameras when we're parked. I added a 12v socket to plug the camera monitor in behind the main TV for surveillance.
And one last thing, I ordered through my dealer another set of the rear LED brake/marker lights and added another set below the factory installed units for more exposure.
That's all I can think of for now.
This picture below might show it better when you compare to yours. Notching out the wall and moving it back made a tons more room. Like I said, no problem fitting the Blackstone sideways now where before it didn't have a chance of fitting.
