New to post but have enjoyed reading all over the forum!

After much deliberation over RV's this past year we decided to go with the GD Solitude 310-R earlier this year and so far we love it! Before buying the trailer we knew that we wanted a sizable solar system and we intentionally ordered the coach with the residential fridge and the generator prep. I will try my best to answer any questions and give a good overview of our system. We can't wait to get out and use or GD even more!

Solar panels: 12x Hi-Tech 200w with tilting brackets
Batteries: 6x Battleborn GC2's
Inverters: 2x Victron Multiplus 12/3000
Solar Controllers: 2x SmartSolar 150/70 Ve.Can
Controller: Victron Venus paired to an iPad mini
Battery Management: Victron Lynx and Blue Sea battery switches
Extras: 50' 50amp power cord reel, Micro-Air soft starts cap's
Power management:progressive Dynamics Surge Guard

I'll attach the photo's below so they can all stay together, our maiden trip to Death Valley went great, the install was 90% and worked better then our expectations. The final 4 Hi-Tech solar panels have arrived and are now installed so hopefully we won't have to tilt the panels as often for short stays. The last few things we are having done will be a protective cover in the pass through compartment to protect everything from all of our camping gear. As well as finishing the "decorative" panels to cover around the batteries and installing some lights in the pass through bay.

One of our main concerns with the entire install was where in the world everything was going to fit! We worked closely with our installer and he did a great job explaining everything and working with us on the entire layout. At the end of the install we actually gained storage space in out front pass through, I was amazed how much wasted space was behind that rear wall. Another key part was that we didn't want to have to worry about power consumption, so everything designed to be "behind the scenes" meaning that we can camp in our camper as if we were on hookups. With the exception of the AC's, for now. We are able to monitor every part of the electrical system through the iPad and the victron app, hopefully Victron will come out with a new app soon enough but overall we are very pleased!

Feel free to ask any questions and I will try to answer then best I can, i may have to reach out to the installer if I can't find the answer.

One unique feature that we did was to "burry" all of the solar cables. As you can see here we have 4 places in the roof where the solar panels plug directly into the junction ports in the roof and all of the power wires are run inside the roof rather then on top of the roof. While some would consider it to be overkill we don't have to worry about sun fading wires and are left with a very clean install.

All setup in Death Valley with our panels tilted, we did find that tilting the panels made a huge difference since it was almost winter time (even though it was 90 out).

Very nice! I wish BattleBorn had that battery configuration when I did mine. I tried to work out a busbar, but couldn't make it work.

Oh holy smokes that is amazing! Anyway we can get a pic of the roof with the panels deployed/tilted?

This is impressive. The battery bank looks very neatly done. Do you mind if I ask what your total pricing (install included) was and who you went through for an installer?

The big risk of making a post like that one your first post here is that you may never be able to exceed expectations of you. ;)

Very, very nice. Thanks.

Why 2 model 3000 inverters instead of just one 5000?

I've seen this a few times here on this forum. It looks like something trailer folks like; motorhomes always seem to use just one (usually Xantrex or Magnum).

gwg_33 - I'm curious as to why you ordered the generator prep? Do you have expectations that you will be able to integrate it into your control systems?

I keep coming back to look at it! ;)

Have you preserved access to the rest of your utility area? The back of your breaker/fuse panel and a lot of wiring, plumbing, and heating ducts are behind the power installation. Can you get to them?

That was a concern of our and after reading lots of the other members having problems with the water system. A lot of the system can be accessed from the right side of the batteries. Any other access we can pull the battery bank forward if needed.

Unfortunately the last picture at Death Valley is the best one i have with the panels tilted, right now the unit is in storage but i will try and get more pictures next time out.

I guess you cover those bars with something?

Yes! while that picture they were raw they have since been covered with clear heat shrink that isn't very visible so they still have a nice look to them.

We actually spent a fair bit of time on that question and decided on the dual 3000's because it was a slightly simpler install rather then splitting a 5000 we run the two 3000's in split phase so each one runs half of the breaker panel.

Since we ordered the unit from our local dealer we went ahead and added the option, we may decide to add a generator in the future but haven't decided yet. The Victron system does allow generator control so we would want to tie it into the system if we go that route.

I know this has been asked before but I didn’t see the answer. Would you mind telling us who did the install? How much each portion cost? And how long did the install take? Would you change anything if you did it over? Thanks for sharing!!!

I would love to see that info too! Would also like to know how much the hitch weight increased. This is real close to what I would like to do. Thanks.

Some people don’t like to mention costs but solar is typically about a dollar a watt so figure about $2,000 for that. You can easily find prices for all the other components online.
My guess is $14,000 total in parts.
Another $2,000 if he paid an installer.

gwg_33 - An amazing install and great package......wow ! There have been many pictures and narratives of solar system installations but yours seems to be one of the best. Looking forward to reading the costs details and who did the installation as others have asked.

I hope this doesn't sound like nit picking because your install is very impressive, but something jumped out at me. The buss bars on the batteries look great but I would be concerned about the the stress on the posts with just a little movement of the batteries. I'd hate to see the batteries fail for that in such a beautiful install. What I have done in the past is use flat braided bonding cable. You can punch a hole in it and use square plates at the connection points. It still looks flat and clean, but gives some flexibility as well.
