One side slide-out not operating

Hi,
How difficult is it to replace a schwintek motor from the outside?

I've got a 2018 BH2800 that's been great. No electrical issues. My slide-out has been open in the driveway for a couple months (it's December now, but no ice). One side is failing to move at all. I don't think I hear the motor on that side. I keep the trailer and the driveway around it spotless and lubed. No signs of mice, but you never know. No food stored in the trailer.

The controller box's LED screen is missing. Just a rectangular hole with a view of a circuit board inside. Been like this since I bought it, I guess. But both motors obviously worked till recently.

With the slide out stuck open, I can't access the motor from the inside.

Thanks for any advice or suggestions.

If the problem is not a failed motor, what else could it be? Could be a low RV battery? Haven't charged it yet, but everything else is normal.

If it is a failed motor, seems like a simple replacement. Is this accurate? What "nuances" might I run into during the install that I should prep for ahead of time?

I would say that a low battery is very likely. Especially if a battery cable was not disconnected. there are still draws on the battery even when the battery disconnect is engaged. If the battery is totally discharged it may be toast. Could be other things too but not as likely. Hope you get it going. Best wishes!

Had a motor replaced this year by a shop, $1000 roughly. Not sure how they did it as it was stuck closed and they did not invite me to watch...good luck.

Just for clarity Schwintek systems have two motors per slide. Stuck out like yours you might be able to do it by removing all the interior framing around the slide that stops it's outward motion when extending. Stuck in it can be done but the retaining screw is the bugger there. I would guess battery as well though. Since you are in your driveway are you plugged into AC power?

Assuming the problem is the motor, and not other issues like low voltage or bad controller, I don't think there is way to conveniently replace the motor from the outside. Fortunately the slide can be manually pushed in. There is a procedure to follow and you can find this by searching the forums or calling Lippert.

Before you push the slide all the way in, don't forget to remove the set screw that is accessed from the out side.

I think I would start with the controller and make sure it's not an electrical issue. First disconnect the power from the controller and do a hard reset. plug back in and see if anything changes. If no change, unplug the right and lefts side wires from the controller and reverse them put the right side plug wires on the left output and visa versa. Try the slide out again. If the problem is the same then you most likely have a bad motor or connection to the motor. If the problem reverses itself, the opposite side stays out and the stuck side now moves, then you have a controller issue.
Before I spend the $$ on replacing the motor, I would check the wire harness with an ohm meter to make sure there is not a break in the line.
Hope this helps,
Brian

Slide-out inoperative

Ensure battery fully charged.

Also, try moving battery disconnect switch, if any, to the "other" setting! (this solved my slide-out dilemma once before)

Reset the controller and swapped wires but the failure stays with the right side. Gonna have to figure a way to access the motor from the outside, just to test the wire and hopefully replace.
