Has anyone had to replace their external led lights? Mine stopped working after replacing the short awning with one that now will actually do some good. I have 12v at the wires but no lights. I will be contacting Lippert and GD to see what my options are.

Boomer--would not seem you need to replace the lights--there may be a loose or "break" in the wiring or maybe switch. Hopefully a member here with electrical expertise will chime in.

Did you replace just the awning fabric or the entire or parts of the awning structure ? Joe (nguyenbio) and I want to make the change from the 6' to 8' awning. I have been in contact with Micah Staley (Reflection product line GM) and he said it was not just a matter of replacing the awning fabric and is working on a different option.

Hi Horst,

Any chance that you got the wires reversed ? LEDs are polarity sensitive.

Rob

I replaced the entire awning structure! As it turned out, Lippert sent me an awning system that was seven inches shorter in width. I ended up putting the new canvas on the old roller, then put the arms on and walked the whole thing in I threaded while my buddies walked it along the trailer. I was only able to reuse the original mounting holes at least he top. Had to caulk the original rivet holes and drill new ones for the arms. Took use about 3.5 hrs. As I said in my op I have 12v at the wires at the LEDs but no lights. Rob might have a good point, I will check the polarity later. My wife reminded me that I had checked the polarity when we first encountered the issue, but I checked again and no luck.

Hi Horst, Marlene & Jack (@Boomer),

Pull the control panel. Locate and follow the wire from the awning LED light switch... There is a 2-amp fuse in the power supply line.

Best regards,

Hi Horst,
If you have 12V at the awning, that goes on and off with the switch, you probably don't need to go looking for the fuse.

Hi all,
Thanks for the help! I received the new light string and got them installed Saturday. All works great now. The length of the new awning is perfect.

Boomer--good to hear you are gtg now. When you can please post some pics of your new awning....I am curious how it looks.........we still want to go with the 8' awning too.

Thanks much !

Dan

Hi Dan,
Our 2015 303RLS came with the 8 ft awning . . . this is what it looks like.

Dan,
I just took my trailer back to storage! But let me say that the extra 2' makes a huge difference. Being an engineer, I went about it very methodically. The only place I had a problem was the side to side (width), the awning and roller that was sent was 7" shorter. As I said earlier, I used the original awning roller with the new canvas. Nobody can tell the difference. The other major advantage is that the pitch can now be adjusted to be of use. I would highly recommend the change.

Boomer & Rob--thanks for the info and picture, Rob.

Micah Staley shared with me some time ago that the 8' awning like Rob has (because it is about 7" more narrow as you share Boomer) would not just simply "bolt on" due to the shorter roller and because the bedroom window was moved backed to fit the newer more narrow but longer 8' awning. In earlier productions like ours, the 8’ awning front rail would cover the front area our bedroom window. If you look closely at early vs newer productions, it is noticeable that the front rail was moved back and as such the BR window had to be moved back as well. I thought we could simply install the 8’ awning fabric on our current awning rail/roller system but things are not that simple apparently.

Hi Dan,
The original arms don't allow sufficient travel in order to accommodate the additional 2' of extension. Measured and calculated that they are at the furthest point with about 6" to spare. However, like I said earlier it takes a combination of the old roller and the new arms and canvas to make it work. As far as the arms are concerned, it required drilling four new holes for the rivets, filling in the old holes with eternabold and I fabricated a small aluminum plate to cover the rivet holes at the bottom part below the mounting rails. PM me if you would like to talk with me further I'll give you my phone number.

Boomer, you said that you replaced the short awning, what was wrong with it. I have a 303rls and we have an issue with the length of the awing being to short to block any sun. I was wondering if you have the same issue.

we have a early #205 Reflection, it came with an awning that would only extend out 6'. This was totally useless when it came to providing any shade, it also didn't slant down very far. Micah sent me an entirely new awning with arms, roller and canvas that extends to 8'. Had a couple of small glitches but was able to make the change myself with the help of a couple of friends. Very happy now.

We have unit #411 and we also got that Useless 6' awning, we bought the sun blocker from carefree but that doesn't help much as the awning only extends straight out. What did it take for GD to send you a right sized awning and how did you go about filing a complaint, also was your camper still under warranty ?
