We are starting to plan a trip in New England starting from the Erie PA area for mid-May to mid-June of 2025. Outside of visiting the Finger Lakes for a couple of days we are looking to travel in Vermont, NH, Maine/Acadia and then to Connecticut to visit Mystic. Would appreciate any ideas on places not to miss, favorite driving routes and campgrounds. We have a 30ft GD Imagine pulling with a F150 Platinum with towing package. Appreciate any ideas - thanks??

We were just up there in June. Near freeport we stayed at Cedar Haven Family Campground, nice campground, nothing special but nothing bad about it either. Freeport has outlet stores and it has LL Bean which is a pretty neat set of stores to look through. Harraseeket Lunch and Lobster had the best lobster I have ever eaten, the price was very reasonable too. Lobster orders are taken at the back serving window, there is a side window for other food orders. Right on the pier.

On Mount Desert Isle we stayed at the KOA just as you get onto the island several years ago (we didn’t go to the Island this year) it was a good place to camp, right on the water and convenient to Bar Harbor, Acadia and to Ellsworth.

Maine Maritime Museum near Bath is a very good stop for a day. Nice displays inside and out.

We went up and stayed in Harrington ME, Sunset Point Campground. A small, simple campground with not much more than an office, bath house, laundry, and some walking paths along the water. there is not a lot to do near there, it was just a couple of lazy days relaxing. We drove up to Lubec to see the large tides the area has.

US1 s a pretty drive, but it can be pretty crowded and slow in places. If you go north of Ellsworth the traffic clears up pretty quickly. We drove I95 up to freeport then US1 from there up to Harrington.

If you don’t have an EZ-Pass I suggest you get one before you go up that way, lots of toll roads.

We live in NNY near the 1000 Islands region, and we take a NE trip almost yearly to visit friends and family. Just a few the highlights for us. I'm sure others can add more:

-Lake Placid and Whiteface Mountain
-Quechee, VT
-Portland Maine: great shopping and seafood
-Boothbay Harbor: sailing adventure, quaint and not as crowded as Bar Harbor
-Mystic Seaport
-Sturbridge
-Norman Rockwell Museum

Here are links for 3 blog entries we have posted about a few our previous trips. In fact, we are leaving this week for another 3 week trip to NE. Safe travels.

We've done Mystic several times and stayed at Sun Outdoors in Old Mystic. It's the closest campground to Mystic. A bit pricey but what private campground isn't now? No sewer hookup but they have a honey wagon service.

Besides Mystic Seaport there's the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center with a museum and walking trails. Also the Mystic Aquarium which we enjoy. Near the aquarium is the street of shops my wife likes. Downtown Mystic has shopping and restaurants, a must stop is the ice cream shop next to the bridge. There's a pay parking lot on the edge of town but it can get crowded, I've cruised the side streets and parked there. Uber is another option.
Check Mystic Seaports website for any special events going on while you're there. We hit a marine power exhibition one time that I really liked. Admission includes a 2-day pass but you don't have to go on consecutive days.

Thanks you for the information!

Thanks for these ideas in Mystic!!

Here are a few forum tips:

1) If you use "Reply With Quote" (to the right of "Reply") as I have here, folks will know to whom you are responding and that person will get a notification.

2) You can also tag folks using the "@" symbol and their user name (as I have done yours) - they'll also get a notification that way.

3) You can create a signature block with your RV and tow vehicle information (see mine below). That way you won't have to repeat that information whenever you post or ask a question - and others won't have to ask. You can create a signature by going to:

Forum Actions (on menu bar) -> Edit Profile -> Edit Signature (under My Settings on the left)

Note: you'll need to have a paid subscription to add an image to your signature.

We boated out of Mystic for 30 years. Youve got good suggestions there but i would add take a ride east to Watch Hill, RI. Nice beach there, neat little ( expensive) town to walk around. Taylor Swift’s house is on the hill you can’t miss it. Have a cocktail at the Ocean House hotel.
Have breakfast one morning at Kitchen Little (‘at the Mystic River Marina). Mystic Pizza is only good for a picture, the pizza is barely average. Have lunch at S& P Oyster House and watch the lift bridge go up and down.
Dinner/ drinks at The Daniel Packer Inn, and/ or R36 both on the river.
Ok ill stop. Have fun.

You might want to consider visiting Cooperstown, NY. Three attractions in the area that spring to mind. The Baseball Hall of Fame, The Farmer's Museum, and the James Fennimore Museum. There are a couple of KOA's near Cooperstown. It has been a couple of years since I stopped at the Cooperstown KOA. The other KOA was in Onteonta, NY and I'd stay there again if they paid me enough.
