Plugging Honda EU2000i generator directly into Reflection 303RLS

I have a 2006 Honda EU2000i generator I would like to use as shore-power for my 2020 Reflection 303RLS. I normally use a 50A Southwire Surge Guard 34951 and when using an adapter to plug into the generator it is reporting "Open Ground" and dutifully cuts the power. Is it safe to just not use the Surge Guard and plug directly into the Honda generator?

Jeff

I have the same generators. There should be no reason not to plug directly in. I have done it several times, but mine is a 30A service. Give your surge guard folks a call. I an guessing it hast to do with the ground neutral bond somewhere or lack of it. There have been other posts on various surge protectors having the same issues.

Make yourself a neutral bonding plug and plug it in to the generator when using it for the
Rv.

What he said.
Make yourself a neutral bonding plug.
Find a cord from something that is broken with 3 prongs. Cut it at 2 or 3 inches long. Strip all 3 wires. Put a wire nut on the hot lead. Put the ground and neutral together with another wire nut. If you want; put a bit of electrical tape to secure the wire nuts and beautify it a bit. Plug it into an extra outlet on the generator. Done. KEN

Yes even Honda direct will tell you not to use a surge protector on their units, champion my current generator, also says the same thing and throws the same code lights on my surge protector. Been using both honda's and now champions for about 5 years without the surge protectors, because they have protection built into the inverter generators already.

I agree...the Honda will deliver clean, surge free power.
