I'm purchasing a portable waste tote for my next trip. I am pulling my Imagine with a Ford Expedition so I'm having a hard time figuring out where to store it. It will take up too much room in the bay and I don't want to put it in my Expy or in the TT. Any suggestions on how to mount it on the bumper or on the hitch? Or anywhere else?

Also, any suggestions on the tote to buy? And what size?

Thanks!

I have a large one, and travel with it between the fifth wheel hitch and the tailgate.

Sorry, just realized you have a SUV.

Not being familiar with your travel trailer, is there room to place it sideways on the a frame portion of trailer?

The Imagine 2800BH does not have a ladder. Any other suggestions?

thanks
Well that sucks. :(

Does it have a bumper? The pictures online are lacking, but it appears to have a bumper tucked up under the rear wall with a spare tire mounted to it. If this is the case, I'd look to see if the spare can be moved to one side and make a bracket. I'd go to Lowe's or Home Depot and find some heavy aluminum flat bars that are long enough to make the bends and thick enough to support the weight, (like item# 103631 at Lowes). I'd buy two and bend them each so that a 4" section was at the bottom to mount vertically to the bumper with self-drilling sheet metal screws. Then I'd make a bend towards the rear to set the tote in so that it doesn't rub against the rear wall, and then bend them upwards high enough to come up to, or just below, the top of the tote when laid on its side. So if you look at the brackets the side they'd look like a chair shaped with 4" legs. I'd then screw another flat between the two brackets to cross-brace them. Then I'd use bungy cords to secure the tote to the brackets.

Since the totes don't weigh that much I don't think this would stress the bumper at all. I would paint the brackets just so they don't stand out - particularly if I had to use steel.

How about putting a roof rack on the Expedition? I used to have one on my SUV when I was towing a TT, and you'd be amazed at how much extra storage it gives you.

We bought one when we went full-time - have never used it. Would let it go to a new home...

Well, this may not be a help to you bit I'm in the same boat. My intent is to clean it up real nice, dry it, and put it in the nose. The gear in the nose will have to go inside the TT. I pull with an SUV as well. The frame is sealed in so that's not really an option. Maybe a bumper upgrade layer on...

off the back bumper was where I carried the tote on our previous trailer. There was enough room between the spare tire and the wall, with strapping it to the spare tire to keep it off the wall. There several racks that attach to the back bumper of a trailer with ubolts that you could look at. The tote is lite and should not be a weight issue.

We only ever use ours for gray water since that seems to fill up faster. But that was when we only had 1 30 gallon tank too. Haven't had to use it yet on the 308! Just remember not to buy too big as water is heavy when you are pulling/lifting one of those tanks!! We had a thetford brand but didn't' like it. Our current one is a blue boy, more expensive but worth it
