Potential Entry Door Damage From Wind

I have noticed on the Reflection 293RES, the entry door has no mechanism to prevent the Entry Door from being got by wind and slamming into the side of the coach. Is there a good fix for this?

Thanks

Hi @titrtyca,

The 293RES has an exterior entry door holder comprised of two parts: one part is located on RV entry door and other is located on the RV sidewall between the entry step and the storage compartment. To use the exterior entry door holder, hold the fully opened RV entry door close to the RV sidewall and insert the swivel locking piece into the locking tab cutout.

Generically speaking, if you are in high wind conditions and do not yet have the RV entry door securely closed and locked in the travel position (or are in the process of locking it in the open position using the exterior entry door holder) you must firmly hold on to the entry door to ensure it does not hit the sidewall.

Hope this helps!

I do not think I have this device. Is there picture available?. The senario I am thinking of is when your hands are full trying to enter the coach and you open the door to enter and before you can unload what you are carrying in and securing the door as you suggested the wind could swing the door around slamming into the coach sidewall and causing damage.

Thanks

I've attached a generic photo of an exterior entry door holder (and added white arrows pointing to the two parts). If you feel this is missing on your RV, please contact your dealer for service assistance.

In the scenario you are describing, my suggestion would to (1) secure the entry door using the exterior entry door holder, (2) go back to the vehicle to get the items and put them inside the RV (using the screen door to get in/out) and (3) then unlock the entry door from the exterior entry door holder and close the entry door but I would be interested in hearing from others on the forum. Please let us know if you've been in this situation and what you've done :)

Thank You for the photo. I do not have this. I will add this to the list for the Dealer to correct. To reduce the ammout of item attached to the exterior is it possibe to add a gas strut to hold the door? I have seen these on other RV's

Thanks

Wind and RV doors have always been a problem. I've had motor homes with pistons that had to be replaced due to the wind. When it's windy we always hold the door securely. But if you live or travel in very windy areas I would put a couple of rubber stops on the side of the 5th wheel to minimize the damage. Most S&B homes have recessed doors that avoid the wind, not so in rv's.

Probably not what you want to hear but I hope it helps.

@el Rojo - It took me a minute to figure out what you meant by "S&B home." ;D

@titrtyca - if the exterior entry door holder is missing on your RV, we will cover the installation under warranty as we intended for it to be installed; however, your unit was not designed to be used with a gas strut at the entry door. A gas strut at the entry door would be considered an aftermarket part and if installed, a unit modification (which is not covered by warranty). As a representative of Grand Design, I'm respectfully declining to discuss modifications to our units (as my participation could be wrongly perceived as tacit approval). Thanks for your understanding. ~ Janice
