Problem with slideout that is causing cabinet around Ref/Freezer to fall apart

Hi. We just purchased a 2022 Grand Design Transcend Xplor #TR261BH-2022 travel trailer. We purchased from a private party who had hardly driven it. She kept it at an RV park in Oregon where she was temporarily working during COVID. She no longer needed it, so they drove it back here to Bend, OR where we live. That is not a very long trip. Our first trip was to a campground only an hour from home. Our 2nd trip, this month, was up to WA. When we got to our 1st stop, which was only 5 hours from home, we opened the door to the trailer and our freezer had opened up and all the food was defrosted on the floor. The entire ref/freezer unit was falling out of the cabinet, and the cabinet was falling apart. We have taken it to our local repair place and they say the issue is actually with the slideout carrying all the weight of the ref/freezer cabinet/oven/reclining chairs. They say it was a poor design of how the slideout was done. We are SO upset because we just had slideout issues with a Keystone trailer and got through a lawsuit that we won, fortunately. We were able to purchase this Grand Design trailer which we had heard so many good things about, and what great quality it is. Now this!! The trailer has hardly had any time on the road, and not a lot of in and outs with the slideout due to the previous owner using it in an RV park. Our repair people are going to send me a s synopsis with pictures today so that we can go back to Grand Design and ask them to pay for the repairs. Has anyone else had similar issues with their Grand Design trailers? We were told that quality control was awful during the COVID years.

Sorry to hear of your troubles. We didn't have any issues with either our 2022 or 2023 Imagine slide outs. Although neither unit was completely trouble free. But slide out have been great so far and we put several thousand miles on each of them.

Quality control for any year is a crap shoot, that's both GD and dealer PDIs.
I have seen a few Transcends on this and other forums with this problem. I think some of the issue is that the Transcend is an entry level trailer and not as robustly made as the other lines.

Reach out to GD , hope they help you. Welcome to the forum! .

Thanks so much for your response! I didn't realize the Transcend was an entry level trailer. Hmmm.....we've had so many issues with the 2 trailers that we are thinking maybe it's not for us, although it has been our dream for retirement. We can't afford other types of travel, so this was what we had planned. Very upsetting! Hopefully GD will realize that they made a piece of sh** with this one!

Thank you for your response. Ours has not many miles on it, so it shouldn't have started falling apart. Darn! Definitely a manufacturing or design flaw.

Don't give up just yet, reach out to GD. My cousin has a Transcend and haven't had much issues. Mostly minor. With the previous owner never taking it out you are the one breaking it in on the road .

Thank you!! We will definitely reach out to GD. We're checking with the lawyer that helped us get the settlement for our Keystone trailer. Want to check in with him before I contact GD. I hate to go through this again. Hopefully GD will come through for us without the hassle and stress!!

Just an update on our issue. It's still not resolved. Grand Design verbally says they will cover it under warranty, which is great (although they have not actually told me this personally). However, there has been no actual commitment. They told this verbally to Blue Compass, the repair place. We started with a non-Grand Design dealer repair shop. Grand Design really didn't want to work with them, so the repair place backed out because they weren't getting any answers from GD as to whether the work would be warrantied. So, we took it to Blue Compass over 3 weeks ago. They are very nice, but now aren't really responding to us because they are waiting on GD's warranty people to respond, commit, whatever it is that is holding them up from doing the work. I'm not sure why it's taking SO long. We keep our trailer very protected in a shop, and now it has been sitting outside in the weather since this issue started. Winter is coming....we did winterize it, but it's still sitting outside. I feel like we are being held hostage by GD. The original service manager at GD, Owen, isn't responding to me either and apparently isn't handling this any more. So we don't know what's going on. Very frustrating! Grateful that they "say" they will cover it under warranty, but have nothing in writing that says this, so we're not even sure if this will happen, or if we will have any out of pocket costs. I certainly hope not! We should be starting to think about making camping reservations for next year, but we have no idea what our trailer situation will be. We've had to cancel reservations for this last year due to the issue.
