Progressive Industries Electrical Management System

Does anyone have any experience with the Progressive Industries Electrical Management System? A guy I work with had a bad experience with the electrical supply at a campground and had his TV, microwave and the control panel on his refrigerator fried along with everyone else in the row he was parked in. He got one of the Progressive Industries EMS units on the recommendation from another person at the campground that did not loose any appliances.

There are many on this forum with both the external and built in versions of surge protectors. We have the external TRC Surge Guard and are very happy with it. Many (including ourselves) have had power shut off by these devices, for voltage conditions that could damage things on the RV. If you use the search tool in the upper right corner on key words like "surge protector" you will find these earlier discussions.

I will never connect without protection. I lost a refrigerator panel, microwave and AC compressor due to a loose neutral many tears ago

My brother in law is one row over from us in the same rv park. I use an external progressive industries EMS system, and he doesn't. He now has a fried microwave and fireplace. I don't have any damage from a surge. Make sure you understand the difference between a surge protector and an electrical management system before you spend your money.

I just installed the Progressive Industries HW50C in our new rig last week. I'm new to this RV thing but I've read nothing but good things about this product. Like my G614 tires, cheap insurance. Well, relatively speaking anyway...

Food for thought (FWIW). We bought the Progressive external inline 50 amp. protector and it has protected us twice. It has also failed twice, the first time I sent it back and it was repaired quickly. The second time I called them and they sent me a replacement unit. Their customer service is exemplary! But my point is- if you had these problems with a unit mounted into the unit, it gets more complicated to deal with!

Good point! The hard wired unit has a bypass switch. I'm not sure if that will work in the case of all failures but I sure hope so. I think I'll ask the company since you brought this up.

I have a hard wired system, but I also carry a portable. I have a dedicated line to the EMS, so if it goes bad, I can easily take it out and return to portable

But, that's unregulated and unmonitored power . . . are you sure that you want that ?
Correct. An yes, if the unit fails, I'll bypass it. The EMS isn't required, it's insurance. Besides, I have a couple of generators if the shore power is suspect. I never had an EMS for the first TT I owned. Never had a problem but then that trailer wasn't very expensive.

Bought the EMS-PT50C last night. That's the portable unit. Thanks for everyone's input!

Wmrwhite, Good choice. After lots of research, The progressive EMS is the way to go. I would not hook up without one. A little expensive, however if it saves your equipment one time it will pay for itself. Great peace of mind.

Just ordered a Progressive EMS HW50C off amazon.com for $290.00 USD .......for my Reflection 303RLS. Has anyone else installed this hardwired model in the 303RLS......if so....where did you install it?

Thanks

In the utility area on the floor beside the converter...only a few feet from the back of the power center on our 337. You have to remove the access panels in the basement storage.

Installed the hardwired Progressive EMS recently in my Solitude. With a little re-routing there was plenty of slack in the incoming line. Only took about 30 minutes. Make sure you have a cable cutter or similar tool. That 6-3 cable can be challenging to cut clean.
Best price I found was from Tweedy's.

Good choice!!! I have the EMS-PT50C also. Great product...you will sleep better knowing that you have multiple types of electrical fault protection, not just surge alone....

Which one?

Progressive Industries EMSLCHW50 Surge Protector

EMS-LCHW50

Progressive Industries HW50C 50 Amp Hardwired Electrical Management System with Remote Display

I have the same. Bought mine before I took possession of my 303. I plug it in as soon as I pull into a site so I can check the electrical supply before I even set up.
