Propane high pressure regulator yellow tape

I replaced and have a slight leak. How many wraps around the threads 2 or 3?

Don't want to over tight and break the threaded part of regulator. It is all 1 piece.

Can’t remember replacing my regulator a few years ago but quite sure I did not use tape

You only use tape when the threads are making the seal

A flared fitting creates the seal with the flare
Perhaps the tape is not letting it seat properly
I wouldn’t tighten too much they will crack

It can depend on the regulator, some have NPT threads. The red one I just replaced had NPT at both ends. A person needs to be aware of the difference though.

If it’s a flare fitting remove the tape. Put a small drop of oil on the face of the flare and reinstall. If npt use tape or a quality pipe dope. If using pipe dope leave the first thread of the male fitting free of the dope, don’t want any of that stuff wandering around inside of the system.

Not a flare btw. My pigtails are flare and no tape. I just tried another 1/4 turn and so far okay. I only went around my 90* fitting 2x with 5he yellow tape.

Update.....got another pigtail that is 3/8 and not needing the adapter. No leaking now. Was an adapter off one of my old regulators. Did my best to clean it up but no joy!
Now I have a spare 1/4 inch pigtail.

That looks like it would work well, but the soapy water tells you exactly where the leak is. I'm just a visual type of guy.
