Removed straps around the propane tank today to check the weight. In trying to re fasten them, the latches kept falling off and when I finally got them to stay on, the thumb latch was bending.

Ant one else have such problems and solutions?

I've had the same issue, but eventually it catches, and then I drop a pin through the latch. Kind of a pain, but not enough to mess with. Some people have changed out the straps for longer ones, or if there are two or three securing points, have moved the mounting points closer together.

Just today I removed and replaced my metal straps with nylon web straps with latching clips. I used the same screws but added fender washers at each screw. Just measure similar distances from the strap end to the 2 original holes and push the screws thru the nylon material. The fender washers weren’t too thick so the original screw length worked well. Glad I did it. The metal straps were more work than worth - and one clip had snapped off.
