Protecting bicycles while hauling them on the back of the 5er

A cover to use in motion is a lot of effort to install and remove. It was so aggravating we didn’t want to use the bikes. I finally gave up and just cover them when parked.

I feel sorry for the bicycles being hauled on the back of rv's attached at a hitch.

We were traveling west on 26 just east of Sandy, Oregon. It's raining cats and dogs. We catch up to a 374TH Solitude with a hitch installed on the back. The poor bicycles are bouncing up and down with the hitch, covered but being drown by all the water coming up off the highway.
I just hope their bicycles down get shook to death.

Safe travels, KEN

I use an extra large outdoor grill cover (mine is over 10 years old and still holding up well). We have 2 mountain bikes we have put on our carrier on the back of the 5th wheel. We secure the cover with nylon straps and bungee cords. The bungees are there to cinch the cover. Never had an issue with the cover coming loose. It keeps the bikes dry and keeps them from getting too dirty. I usually attach the cover to the ladder as well with the nylon straps to keep the bikes from bouncing. I use a Swagman E-Spec 2.0 hitch that is RV and 5th wheel rated. It is very solid and easy to use.

The cover maybe takes 5 extra minutes to attach and about 2 minutes to remove. It folds up nicely when we are at our destination.

We/ve been using a Swagman bike bag to cover out 2 e-bikes. Once you figure it out it is great and easy to zip up once the bikes are mounted.

The best part is that this is a bag. It has a bottom and completely encloses the bikes. We had a 'cover' at first - it didn't keep the bikes very clean or dry.

We use the Swagman cover as well and like how well it protects the bikes.

We have a bike rack attached to our 5th wheel (2021 Solitude 310-GK) hitch. We use zip ties to secure the bike wheels to the bike rack so there is no way the bikes can move around or fall off. We then secure the bikes to the bike rack with a locking cable. (BTW, we have a lock on the bike rack hitch as well.) We place a folding outdoor chair or two between the bikes to ensure they don't rub up against each other in transit. We cover both of our e-bikes (and the folding chairs) with one dual bike cover, and then we cover everything with a large cargo net and secure that to the bike rack with bungy cords. The cargo net eliminates all billowing of the bike cover and also adds a bit more "security". Admittedly this process can take up to 45 minutes, but we don't ever have to worry about our e-bikes while in transit! They arrive safe and clean.

We use a Team Obsidian bike cover which does a great job. I do put an extra strap around the cover to minimize billowing. One concern I have is that when covered, the bikes partially block the rear brake lights. I plan to move the lights up for better visibility.

Check out “TheJK squared” on you tube. They set up auxiliary lights running up the side. We did the same and it works well.

My bikes are folding electric bikes and I wrap them up with cheap Harbor Freight packing blankets tied down with several bungies.

I thought about covering the bikes when in transit but got concerned about obstructing the tail lights. So no cover for us (although I do cover w/ a tarp when we arrive at a site).

If I knew we were going to be travelling all day in a soaking rain, I can put the bikes either in the basement or in the back seat area of the truck.

With this cover you really don't have to worry about the taillights...the LED lights are pretty visible from behind.
