We recently purchased a 2023 GD Momentum 350g 5W, pulling it with a 2023 Ford F350 e/w gooseneck hitch. We notice as we’re driving down the highway that it’s pulsing (chucking) sort of like the brakes are being applied every few seconds. Not sure what’s going on?

Not sure, but from what you're describing, it could very well just be chucking. Which "gooseneck" hitch are you using?

Hello Rob,
The Gen-y came on the trailer.

Chucking is an up and down motion that causes the jerking you feel. The thing to remember is that some chucking is inevitable unless the road is very smooth. There are things you can do to reduce it, and things that can be wrong that make it worse.

It can be a truck suspension or tire issue. Worn shocks, light duty tires or under inflated tires etc..

Can also be play in the hitch. Make sure everything is tight.

Could also be a loading issue. What are you carrying in the garage?

Good morning JK

The F350 is relatively new 2023 equipped with an 8 foot truck bed. I’m sure the suspension is fine.
At this moment in time there is nothing in the garage other than the washer dryer that came with the rig Plus the standard happy Jack bed that comes with the trailer.

Thanks for your reply,
Lou

It’s not impossible that your rig is pin heavy causing the ride issues. Toy haulers tend to need some thought to get pin weight right going from an empty garage to a loaded garage. Someone with the same trailer would be more knowledgeable about the specifics.

I would get it weighed by axle. Weigh the truck separately and then hooked up. Make sure you are loaded with passengers, fuel and normal water level.

Thanks, that’s on my priority list. At this moment the toy hauler is in for service for the last week. Though I am not sure how the weight information will really help us understand the pulsing/ chucking. My understanding is that the trailer is front heavy is most likely the cause. Hopefully I can get the trailer back before Thanksgiving.

If you weigh the truck and trailer together and separately, you’ll know the pin weight and axle weights on the truck which will help figure it out.

Also doesn't the GenY need at least a thousand mile break in before they do what it's supposed to do ?
That's news to me, however I'm the second owner and I'm sure the previous owner had put at least 1000 miles on the Gen Y hitch. On our next trip I plan to have my wife sit in the back seat of the truck and video record the movements of the hitch.
