Question about hitch

Hi all new to forum bought a reflection a month ago for work I have a Q I have a 8 ft bed in my truck 2500 HD duramax GMC pick up I have a fixed 16 K reese hitch

My Q is they installed the hitch centered over the rear axle as I sure it should of been But I need to move it back 4 inches off center of axle to allow clearance for my welding machine so the swing will not collide into my welder so dose any one no if it will ride or cause problems moving the hitch back that little bit

I wouldn't want it to be 4" behind the axle, that will unload the front axle by a good amount. The air bags will not transfer the load back to the front, only level the back. Your trailer will handle more like a bumper pull if you do this, it will not be as stable as typical fifth wheel towing. Do what you have to do. Sorry I couldn't ease your mind but what I mentioned are facts, not my opinion.

I'll echo what Glazier posted...wouldn't want the hitch to be behind the axle centerline.

I also agree with the concerns expressed. A while ago I was gaining information about hitches- installing a B & W 3500. As we have an 8' box, we have options on forward positioning. I emailed B & W about setting their hitch in the forward position for some weight transfer to the front axle. Their reply basically said that using the forward position was fine as long as clearance was OK from the fifth wheel to the cab. There are three options available on the top holes for front to rear clearance. I hope you can work this out- we want you to be safe! Please keep us advised, Fred!
