I am almost an owner, ironing out the specifics now..... Just a question about a charge they are saying is for battery, propane, certification for the appliances and solitude school? What is it and why do I pay for it? Anyone else pay for school? My last camper they did not charge separate for the battery or the propane or the appliance cert and they showed us how to work everything with no charge, so I am confused? Is this new with grand design? Thanks for any and all responses.

Hi Jeanette,
We just purchased our Solitude on the 26th and didn't have to pay for any of those charges... that we know of.
There was no mention of "Solitude School" either.

We live in California so maybe it's different in another state.

I bought my Solitude a year ago in Maryland and I did not pay any of those charges unless it was in the price of the RV, but those charges were never mentioned separately.

Let me get this straight. The dealer wants to charge you for the battery , the propane in the tanks  , appliance certs (seriously??)   and Solitude school? Seriously???!! Solitude school? If these charges are in addition to the price of the unit itself, I might be looking to buy my Solitude elsewhere.

Someone Call Bill Fenech.....

Dealers can charge for those items if they want to. Most don't, but some do.

Never heard of Solitude school. unless they consider a walk through on the unit as School..

Welcome to the forum Jeanette!

I would think most dealers would combine all those charges under "Dealer Prep".

All of that was included in the purchase price, except the school, which I have never heard of.

There are lt.'s of names for different "fees and profit centers". It's also called PDI on some deals. It's all the same as "Dealer Prep" on new cars. The factory pays the dealer to inspect and prep and repair any defects before you take delivery. Sometimes the dealer will try to charge you as well. I just told our dealer to take it off the deal since I knew they were getting paid for it already. I'm surprised your dealer even said they were going to charge you for training on the rig. I've never heard of such a thing, but I guess it depends on where you are. I'm not sure. Good luck with that and I hope you get it taken off.

Our dealer charges 200.00 document fees, destination charges are 850.00 and dealer prep is 996.00. These are all after your best "dealer" price and are taxable to boot. The dealer prep is all their testing, the walk through, LP tanks filled, ect. Seems excessive especially since what I've read, Grand Design does two QC checks before the unit is released to the dealers :( We will pay for it because we love the trailer.

Thank you to all that replied....... We bought from a different dealer and even paid a lot less, and no charge for school on this deal!

We are officially owners of a beautiful Solitude 369rl !!!!

Shawn and Jeanette in NW Florida

I would find a different dealer! We didn't pay for any "school" we spent nearly 6 hours at the dealer when we picked up our reflection, they were as nice and helpful at the end as when we first arrived. We did end up purchasing several thousand dollars in accessories as this was our first trailer. We even got a discount on those. I guess some dealers just like to take when and where they can get away with it.

Congratulations on the purchase of your Solitude, Shawn and Jeanette! I'm glad you found another dealer you were more comfortable with...confidence in your dealer makes a big difference.

Yes. Congrats on your new Solitude!! I hope you love it as much as we love ours. I hope the previous dealer learnd a lesson on how NOT to treat a customer.

I didn't pay for any extra charges like that when I purchased my Solitude 369RL in November. that dealer just wants to make extra profit. I agree with BennyJR about being inappropriate for charging for propane etc.

Find another dealer that wont charge all of those fees!
