Wife just sent me this

"Grand Design RV, LLC is recalling 8,161 model year 2017-2021 Solitude 5th wheels trailers. The liquid propane (LP) supply line that runs through the exterior lower refrigerator compartment may contact the burner tube of the refrigerator , possibly damaging the line and causing an LP gas leak."

"An LP gas leak increases the risk of fire resulting in injury or even death."

"Grand Design will notify owners, and Dealers will inspect the LP supply line for damage, replacing it as necessary. All lines in the vicinity of the burner tube will be wrapped in thermal foil heat barrier material, then secured away from the burner tube of the refrigerator with additional P-clamps, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin September 30, 2020. Owners may contact Grand Design customer service at 1-574-825-9679, Grand Design's number for this recall is 910021."

Looks like we may be on the list. I checked GD's web site Recall list and its not listed there yet.
We were just discussing a maint check list in another thread, I have checked the hose in the lower refrigerator access panel and didn't see anything wrong at last check..

This is not yet an official recall (NHTSA is still working on it) and GD has asked that we not post it on social media yet. It only applies to units with absorption refrigerators and letters will go out to owners by VIN soon.

Difficult for this information not to be out there when it was published.

I’m supposed to pick up a 2021 310 next week. I contacted the dealer and asked them to verify if this impacts the Solitude I am purchasing so the could resolve it before I pick it up. There over three hours away and I’d hate to get a recall just after getting it and have to take it back to them.

I think its a good idea for owners to check their propane lines on a regular basis. I have a maintenance item to check the lines quarterly and check the pigtails whenever I refill a tank. One of my good purchases, thanks to another forum member suggestion, was a propane sniffer. The way our lines are run, the fridge and stove supply line runs very close to the left front wheel, good idea to check this line often.

I have seen a high/low camper blow up from a propane leak at a campground, it was not pretty.

Little too late...I think the proverbial cat is out of the bag.

Bummer, just got my recall letter. For anyone who's had this done yet, any experiences to share? I'm not looking forward to returning back to the dealer!

You might be one of the first owners to get it and provide info to the rest of us. Hope it isn't too difficult to get it looked at.

I have not gotten the letter either. I'm stopping by my dealer in Seguin on the way back from Sam Houston forest camping next week and getting mine state inspected. I plan to ask if they can clear the recall on mine so it's not on record as not repaired. There is nothing to repair since that propane line was plugged and secured out of the way went the residential fridge was done.

I called my dealer this morning. They had no knowledge of this recall. Just so happens we're leaving on a trip tomorrow morning and will be passing right by the dealership. I knew it was a longshot, but I asked if I could stop by and have them take a look since we'll be right there. Nope, service is backed up for a long time. I asked for some leeway since I purchased the trailer there and it's a safety recall. Again, nope.

Received recall letter in the mail yesterday. Something to get done after I winterize in a few months. Fortunately, I rarely use propane and will just shut it off in the interim.

Well that's a 310 and a 379. Based on my interpretation of the issue, and reading what my wife showed me off FB, our solitude may not be apart of the recall because of the way the propane hose is routed to our absorption fridge. Our VIN may or may not fall within the range of the recall, the VINs are non-sequential. We shall see. Its up on the GDRV web site.

I regularly check our propane lines for scuffing and leaks anyway since we had our main regulator start leaking. Not something you want to fool around with, a propane leak.

This is our 3350RL. To the left of the "T" is the fridge, to the right is the stove cook top

got my letter yesterday and made an appointment for the recall. Have to wait until 10/17 but we are not intending to use it any time soon anyway.

Here's what's going on inside of mine. No evidence of any damage to the rubber line however more concerning is how the line is rubbing on the cut edge of that aluminum extrusion. I filed/rounded the edges of that aluminum part down and put a couple pieces of Gorilla Tape on there to prevent the metal from rubbing on the rubber hose.

EDIT: Shoot, most of the images are rotated!

Our compartment on 2021 380FL looks exactly the same. Got my recall letter today. I think this is “an abundance of caution” recall but your concern about the abrasion on that aluminum stock is a real concern. I’ll probably add at least another P strap or standoff to minimize that concern also.

This is what mine looks like before and after. This is my own work, I don't recommend doing this yourself.

After making shield and installing, nothing touches or rubs

Nice!

Since I live some distance from a GDRV dealer, Grand Design communicated to me that because this is a Safety Recall they cannot authorize owners to effect repairs themselves. Must be inspected and repaired by RVIA certified Tech. I can use a local center or mobile service with a certified tech. GDRV will send them a repair kit and cover labor, but as mentioned in many other threads here - I would have to cover the cost of a service call if I use a mobile tech.

What’s that line that goes vertical for? I only have one line going past the fridge- presumably for the stove.
