Recall problem

I experience the same problem with a local GD dealer. They have 2 location. I called the closest and they flat refused to fix the recall because I did not buy from them. I call their other location, about 25 miles away. This time they did not refuse to fix it they just scheduled it out to late September. I called the dealer I purchased from (108 miles away). They gave me an appointment 7 days out from when I called. Made the trip, took all of 15 minutes for them to fix the issue. Altogether I spent about half the day getting it done right.
Regards, Jim
Can you tell where they accessed the underbelly?

We’re from Canada. Purchased our RV in Ontario, then moved to BC. We received this same recall, along with the microwave one(?), called up the closest GD service centre and it was done in like 1 hour. My husband did ask if he could do the job himself if we picked up the part, and we’re told as it’s a recall, if we did, and we then had an issue, our insurance wouldn’t cover us. I called insurance and they were bang on. We’ve never taken any of our rigs to camping world for service or repair as we’ve heard nothing but bad reports and excessive costs. I agree with all the others, call your local dealer as they must do the job, regardless if you bought it from them or not, and if not, call GD. Good luck!

We have ours at a seasonal and GD won’t pay for the service call for the dealer to come and fix the recall. We either have to pay it, fix ourselves, or wait till October. Not very good customer service on either end.

I have a 2019 Reflection 273MK 5th wheel. They worked on the left side toward the back. Just behind the back of the slide-out. Fix_Area.jpg Not sure if the picture will show.

I bought my 2017 Reflection at Beckly's in Thurmont Maryland and though we too had a price issue, when I took it in almost a year after I bought it they not only took care of the minor issues I had but replaced all the Lippert components ruined by leaky wheel bearing seals. And so I didn't even have to pay for the wheel bearing grease job I requested. I don't know where you live! But you might give them a try, unless of course they are the dealer you are speaking of.

I Have a 303. The access was on both sides, just behind the back wheel. Remove 3 or 4 screws and u will see the connections sitting on the underbelly. Just use a zip tie to secure them just above.

Our Reflexion is permanent in Florida so we contacted GD and got authorization to have a certified repair guy fix our under belly wiring recall. They will pay for the repair but we will pay his service call. This works out well since we are in Indiana and just spend winters in Fl.

FYI - I have a 2017 GF reflection 308BHts that got the same recall. However I’m in an interesting scenario where I don’t have a tow vehicle. We bought it solely for use at lake property and people we bought from were nice enough to deliver for us. Anyways I called GD they authorized mobile service with any RV service of my choice. No hassle didn’t push back for a second. They offered before I even asked. I just presented my situation and the rep immediately said no problem we will authorize a mobile service. Said if they service wasn’t comfortable going through GD for reimbursement to just pay myself and they would cut me a check.

For the life of me, given CWs reputation and everyone being online, I can not understand why a) anyone does business with them, and b) how they are still in business.

I did get through to GD about a local service provider doing the work. The problem is that GD only pays for the repair. My guy says they do not include his time to set up the work authorization, ever spent time on hold..., with them and other administrative time. My dealer is 100 miles away, wanted a GD and had to go that far to get it......what is a person to do??

I just had this problem addressed with my 2019 297 RSTS. I also had a recall on my microwave/convection oven. I was told a heat shield needed to be installed behind this appliance to insure no discoloration occurred on the outside of my unit My local dealer took care of both of these issues in one trip. The lady that is over the warranty work at my dealer told me a factory rep informed her the wiring issue had only been found in one unit but due to the potential seriousness of the problem a recall had been issued. My unit was fine but while they were there they secured the wiring with additional zip ties. If that is true then the danger may not be great but still the issue needs to be addressed. I regret to hear you are having problems finding someone to work on your rig.

Our last unit was not a Grand Design. We purchased it from a dealer that was 140 miles away. We had to take it back twice. Once within 12 months. Once after we owned the rig 17 months. Both items were addressed at no charge to us. They were great to deal with. We would have purchased from them again but we wanted a Grand Design. Our current dealer is 20 miles away but we have been told they are not very timely on their work. We will know more as time passes I am sure.

Warranty issues

Sorry to hear your local dealer is like ours. Seems as I have been reading the only place to buy an rv is from the Grand Design outside of the plant in Indiana. Warranty seems like a big game where the dealer network holds you of all responsibility, even in a matter as a vendor warranty. How is it when you purchase a new rv and trade it in a year later, the new owner has zero warranty on everything. Yet you can purchase rv products and get a 2 or 3 year warranty on it. Huge case and point, our 2019 Reflection was 13 months old when we purchased it last April. The Dometic RM1350slmx had a burnt out light. Our local dealer we bought from said there is no WARRANTY left. I purchased from my local dealer, overpaid dearly, a new light assembly ($45). Went to install it, didn't work. After testing for power, no power at the wires that connect to the light. Again, talked to local dealer, no answer but told me to call Dometic. After leaving a message with them, phone and email I recieved a call from them 5 days later. Their tech represenative told me that I would need a new frig. ($4000) that there is no fix for the light. I asked for wiring diagrams and he sent them. Not 1 page shows those 2 wires on any drawing. He then asked if we had bought an extended warranty from the selling dealer, we did, he says contact them to get a new frig. What has happened to customer service, this rv industry is over run by money greedy dealers that have no spine. How can so many dealers not understand what a quality product means. They need to stand up with the customers and get the issue resolved. By the way, I have also purchased 3 new and 1 used rv. All have to many things in common, warranty! PLease don't get me started on the water leaks.

Also to ALL who want to rv, make the dealer take off cubby doors in the storage areas. You will be amazed at what you can find. When I took any of the covers off in any of the storage areas, every 1 had left over building scraps all over the floor, metal shavings, sawdust even a napkin from a lunch. The 2019 used Reflection even came with a turkey pan left under the water lines board, to catch the leak the dealer never saw.

You should be glad GD doesn't authorize any work done at camping world, they are well kown to have less than stellar service departments.
GD has never had and will never have a working relationship with Camping World , don't know the whole story why but sure there are many good reasons.

I once asked a CW service manager why they didn't sell GD. His answer was pretty straight forward (and I paraphrase) GD does not like the way CW CEO does business nor the way CW handles warranty issues (and what it charges the customer and GD). He also said CW wanted bigger profit margins which meant either driving up price or GD getting less per unit. That was his (informed) take, true or not, I don't know for sure, but he had always been straight with me.

BTY, the service manager owned a Reflection which he had hooked up to his truck. Heading out to a mountain campsite after work (Friday). At the time, we owned a Jayco and were looking at GD AT HIS RECOMMENDATION!

Agreed. The local dealers are so over run and under staffed it’s crazy.
Stay out of camping world, the Walmart of the RV world.

When we purchase our RV our dealer is in for a surprise. I am doing a complete PDI on every component on the rig. Including taking off access panels. Running the unit on battery, electrical hook ups and generator power. It will be written in the contact and I will pay no money until it all checks out to our satisfaction. I am sure this will take the better part of a day but for the price these things cost and the problems I hear coming from the factory, my confidence level in GD is slowing fading. I am considering other options at this point no matter what model we purchase!

If you want to go “all in” on this plan, take a Philips head screwdriver and have them “snug up” every screw head you can find. And when 20-30 of them simply fall off, have them fix all those broken ones. For me, this is simply an annoyance but a time consuming one. Make sure you get on the roof and check all the seams as well. Take off the AC cover and ensure all the taping is still intact. Heck, i am sure there are a ton of other things this group could come up with that aren’t necessarily normal to look for.

I would love to see their faces when you made this a requirement.

Don’t get me wrong....we LOVE our GD 31MB. Simple the best built of the 3 5ers and two pop ups we have owned over the years (two Coleman pop ups, a Jayco 5er, a Starcraft 5er (less than two years total ownership of that piece of junk) and now this GD. But there are things with GD that happen up also.

I'm not sure how the dealers are in your areas but the ones here will just say riiiiiiiiiiiight. And then sell the trailer to the 4-6 people waiting in line behind you to buy the same trailer. I wish you the best of luck. As far as the trailers, I also love my reflection and wouldn't trade it for any other trailer on the market. Amazes me in the heat and the cold. Excellent build quality.

I hope you are correct. I just sold my Imagine 2800. It was not a high quality build I expected from GD. I believe I have addressed all the connections not tightened down, missed caulk, etc., so the new owners won't be dealing with it. But I have faith (eroding slightly listening to all of you...) and am buying a new Reflection next week.

Wonder if Winnebago buying GD is or will cause quality issues.
