Hello All,

Hoping to get some advice on an issue that I am having with my hitch. It's a Reese 16K sliding hitch that I purchased in 2010. I had recently gotten into the habit of unbolting the hitch head from the slider to make it easier for my wife and I to lift it out of the truck for storage. Went to reinstall this week and now the slider is not working as it should. I am unable to move the handle to the unlock position. The handle appears to be bound where I can only move it about 1/4 of it's range but it remains in the forward lock position. When I think I have it locked in I can still move the hitch when I grab the head and move it side to side. I don't trust that this is truly locked in. Something is obviously wrong with it since I can't get it to the unlocked position.

Can this be repaired? If so how would I do so?

Should I replace the sliding base and reinstall the hitch head on the new slider?

Should I replace my 14 year old hitch entirely?

Thanks in advance!

I would, yeah, I'm spending your money, but I would replace it completely. Having minor issues are only going to lead to major failures.

Too bad you are not in Wilmington NC as I would give you a 16K Slider Hitch!

probably yes, that's what I ended up doing. After my 3rd Reese slider failed and the RV dealer decided to no longer attempt repairs or sell Reese. I have a Curt now and it is a far better hitch.

I'm going to take this advice. Thanks for the feedback. I've got my eye on a new Curt.
