Hey guys, this my first thread! I’m looking at a previously owned 310GK that has a Reese Goose Box and am curious if anyone has info or opinion on that system. They, Reese, claims they are approved by Lippert and do not void their frame warranty. I haven’t purchased the TV yet but anticipate a F350DRW. I would prefer a SRW but reading all the post in the TV section the SRW may not be able to handle the weight. Any info will be appreciated!

Father in law has one and loves it. Says it pulls so much better, and they go on long trips. I was gonna go that route but having a short bed I decided on a B&W slider for clearance while maneuvering. Otherwise I would have done it. If your gonna tow a lot then definitely recommend a DRW.

Thanks Chad, I did like the idea of just having a ball instead of the fifth wheel hitch for weight and ease of removal! We are probably going full time early 2019. I’m not sure I like the idea of driving a dually around when we’re unhitched but reading all the forums and doing the research, it seems like the logical choice.

I have one and really like it. It wasn't in when I picked up our unit and we were headed to Florida right away. So I towed with the standard pin box and a borrowed hitch the first trip. If I remember correctly it was a curt Q24k. I had the Goosebox put on when we got back and there is a noticeable difference, Its much smoother. I wouldn't go back.

I did call and confirm with GD that there would be no issue with using the Goosebox.

That’s good news! We are traveling to look at this unit on Friday. Are you using the factory, ie. GMC, installed socket for the ball or did you have to install a system specific to the hitch?

How are your weights on the SRW? I’m trying to determine if I can go SWR over the DRW.

Thanks Rod

My next truck will be a DRW...they just feel so much more stable. Plus then you don’t have to worry about payload as much. I’ll get a long bed and switch to the goose box. I already park way out at stores cause I hate door dings, so it really won’t be much different besides the occasional drive through...

We thought of going to a dually and took one for a drive. We didn't like the harsher ride or the wider turning radius. Unless we go to a much larger trailer than what we have (303) we will stick with our 1 ton GMC Denali. We have been very happy with it.

The Reese GooseBox puts stresses on the front of the trailer frame very similar to those of other gooseneck adapters (not good for the trailer). They are "approved" by Lippert and do not affect your Lippert frame warranty because Lippert and Reese are in bed together financially. Fifth wheel RV frames are designed and constructed differently than gooseneck equipment and stock trailers. Some people have gotten by with using gooseneck adapters on fifth wheel RVs for a long time... and others haven't.

Thanks for all the opinions, I really appreciate it! Speaking of warranties, do the factory warranties transfer?

The Reese Goosebox isn't similar to other gooseneck adapters because it isn't an adapter that attaches to the fifth wheel pinbox. It is a "pinbox" that is designed to replace the fifth wheel pinbox with a gooseneck hitch that is approved by Lippert.
If I were starting over getting a hitch for my 5er, it would be a Goosebox. With a B&W Turnover ball, to get full use of your pu bed, just lift out the ball and turn it over and you have a level floor again. Easy peasy.

If you go with a F350 SRW SB or a RAM 3500 SRW SB you will be fine on payload and GCWR with the 310GK. You may need to use a Fifthwheel Slider Hitch with the SB due to the width of the Solitude vs the Reflection and other narrower RVs. Duallys are great if you plan to tow a much bigger/heavier RV but can be a pain when you want to go sightseeing, or just to a shopping center as parking and narrow roads can be a challenge. If you go SRW SB you might need to add Air Bags to the rear end just to level the trailer a little better but payload capacity would be a non issue regardless. Good Luck.

My personal daily driver is a Dodge 3500 DRW with 9.5’ bed and its not that bad for getting around town. Yes when I park I take up 4 spots but I’m used to not parking close cause my other vehicle is a freightliner tow truck thats 8.6’ wide and 39’ long. After taking the tow truck into a camp ground the one ton is a breeze to get around in lol.
If I was switching to a goosebox I would get in writing from GD that there is no issues switching and won’t effect warranty

Another thing to think of is once you switch from 5th wheel to goose neck style hitch you also need to add safety chains
