We are brand new to RVing and are headed to Rocky Mountain national Park in two weeks. My question is ;we have a brand new 2023 2500RL that has a Furrion 12 V DC refrigerator. how long will this run off of the campers onboard battery?
Just wondering if we need to keep it shut off until we get there or if it’ll run for a day or two until we get to the campsite with full hook ups? Thanks for any help and input.??

It might be a good time to upgrade your battery bank. While you're driving there should be no issue. I don't have a 12v fridge so can't say with any certainty on how long it will last before killing the battery sitting still.

Plugging in for your overnights, you should be ok though.

Yes, we keep it plugged in constant, here at home, just wanting to know if it will be good leaving on for couple days travel, before we get to our campsite at grand lake & plug back in?

You have left out some vital information with your question. 1st...What type of battery do you have....Lead Acid, AGM, LiFePO??? 2nd. What is the Amp Hour (AH) of that battery? 3rd. How long will you be driving after the trailer is disconnected from shore power? 4th. Does the trailer have solar panels? and are they large enough to keep the battery charged or mostly charged while traveling? 5th. You will also need to know how much current the fridge will draw while running and how often it runs to keep temperatures where you want them. There is no clear Yes or No answer to this question without knowing those answers to the questions above.

My experience with the 16 cu ft 12v refrigerator in our Reflection hasn’t been the best, but here is what I can tell you.

Definitely cool it down while connected to shore power. These things take a while to cool and will take a considerable amount of power to get down to safe temperatures. It takes much less power to maintain an already cool refrigerator.

Never add warm food or drinks after the unit has cooled down. These things have a hard enough time maintaining the proper temps. If I have to add say warm beer, I always add ice to assist in the cooling. I try and keep a gallon jug about half full of water in the freezer that I can put in the refrigerator to help with the cooling.

Initially, Grand Design was installing the smaller Furrion solar panel that wasn’t sufficient to power the refrigerator. Now it seems that they are using a solar panel that will keep up. You just have to remember to camp in locations that aren’t shaded and try to minimize power consumption (lights, heat, etc.) at night when everything is relying solely on the battery.
