Hi, I just got my new Momentum 29GS. It has the solar and inverter packages so lots of good stuff but for some reason has a single 85 amp 27 group lead acid flooded battery. It also has a generator, I had some concerns at first switching to a Lithium battery for starting but I have one in my 950cc V twin dirtbike so I don’t see why a much bigger one couldn’t start a 400cc generator engine.

What have people used for a replacement? I used a 206 aH SOK in my last trailer to replace two 31 group 100 aH acid batteries and was very pleased. It looks a tad wide to fit the battery box in the GD and not sure if there is enough length on cables to reach the odd both terminals at one end of the SOK. I sure like their new 300 aH but its much larger

Batteries are a dealer supplied item and usually at the minimum of what's needed

If you like that battery enough to buy it again why not replace the battery box and cables along with it ?

Certainly an option, especially now they are half the price I paid. Just curious if people had good experiences with other options. I don't want to get overly complicated, just don't see how the little single battery could be expected to power a big trailer.

SOK is a great brand. Also Battleborn GC are great as the have cleats to directly mount and have heat options. They are also one of the priciest. I have two unheated Ampertime (now rebranded to Litime) 300 ah batteries and have been very happy with them.

SOK batteries are good, as are the other brands mentioned above. Check out Will Prowse on YouTube. He does a lot of testing. Some of the cheapest batteries today perform as well as the priciest.

I put a Weize AGM battery in my truck after the expensive name brand failed with-in three years. The Weize was less than half the price, and so far has been great. (five months.)

I looked at the Weize Lithium batteries, they are a bit cheaper than the SOK, but they are nice in that they would fit in the factory frame rail without modification. The SOK will require metal work to get another 1/2" of width.

I'll look at BattleBorn

Remember that a LiFePo4 battery will have more usable power than LA or AGM. A LiFePo4 battery can be discharged to 10% or less without damage effectively doubling the power that can be used.

Wow. The Battle Born 270 aH would fit perfect. Unfortunately, 10 times the price of the Weize 100 aH.. The 206 Ah SOK is $599 these days, the Battle Born 270 is $2499.

Yeah, the SOK was awesome in my Lance. Only ever ran generators for the A/C. Microwave, hairdryer, SmartTV, Dish all off the SOK with only a 260 watts of solar. (It was usually fairly drawn down Sunday morning.)

First thought is to do two Weize 100 aH, battery box and wiring will come in about the same price as the SOK 206 but not require notching and bending the battery rails. They aren't welded vertically to the frame, so doesn't appear to be a structural issue, I just hate cutting into a brand-new trailer. (The Lance had stand alone battery frames which I was able to un bolt, modify and re-bolt meaning it was a replicable part. )

The battle Born sure seems like it would work, but it's nearly five times the cost.

As far as your concern for engine starting, check with battery manufacture to get their acceptance or just take your chances, which appears to be what many/most do. Li Time specifically states not to use it for ANY engine starting with ANY of their batteries. There is no need to discuss this on this post since there is more than enough information that you can search for.

People don't seem to like to search. Spoon fed is the norm anymore.

I too would love to get a LifePo4 battery to start my small engines, but to find one that could handle the output current, the aH rating would be substantial. I am waiting till technology catches up.

The little Lithium battery in my 950 spins up good (much better than the lead acid one) and realistically if you look at the amp ratings, a little engine like the generator has should be pretty minor. Corvette E-Rays and many other cars come with Lithium batteries for starting batteries now. I had talked to a few companies to see if I could buy one for my truck, but the winch draws up to 450 amps so no luck.

I will replace my side-by-side battery with lithium when the time comes.

Anyone ever try a Watt Cycle battery? It looks like the 280/314 aH battery would fit in the frame rails and not require modifications. I really don't want to cut on the new trailer or do something hillbilly like put a 2x6 under the battery in order to fit the SOK. Other option is two Weize Group 24 100 aH, looks like I can get a group 24 dual box from Amazon and some 2 gauge pre-made cables.

I replaced mine with 2 280ah lithium batteries with low temp protection. Make to adjust of have adjusted the solar settings ro lithium batteries. I purchased Redodo batteries and am very happy with them!

I’ve got some LiTime coming, (actually already at the house) I’ll install
Before the first boondocking trip. (In a KOA this week so no issues with power)
