After 5 years our factory installed Insignia 1.6 cu ft microwave has bit the dust. Unfortunately, this nuke is discontinued, having been replaced by a 1.7 cu ft Insignia.

The new nuke should fit in the space vacated by the old one. Unfortunately, the new one's height and depth are slightly smaller than the old one.

This leads me to questions about support and trim for the new one. I have not yet removed the old nuke, nor have I bought the replacement.

Has anyone else out there made this swap? Is new trim needed, and is it readily available?
Can someone kindly point me to the information I need? I'm open to any and all suggestions, including the possibility of replacing with a microwave/convection combo.

TIA

Have you checked out eTrailer.com? They have helpful staff who might be able to find you a suitable replacement.

I did this replacement earlier this year:

We had problems with our microwave (6 years old) on our fall trip - not Insignia but... When I closed the door on it one time, it kicked the power to the trailer. We have solar and inverters so it kicked at the inverter level instead of inside. We took it all apart and couldn't find anything but it worked again, for a little bit. Hubby did some research on line and discovered there are a couple of switches that determine if the door is open or closed. We surmise that it blows these switches by the door bouncing slightly as you go down the road. There are also some related fuses, which he ended up blowing while trying to find the problem. Before the fuse blew the light and clock still worked. Afterwards nothing did. They have a kit of three switches on Amazon for about $8. Amazon.com: KW3A Microwave Oven Door Switch 16A 125/250V Door Interloc (2 Pack Normally Open & 1 Normally Close)Microwave Oven Door Switch Replacement Part : Home & Kitchen There are videos on Youtube to show how to replace; pretty easy. Look for "Rv microwave repair and trouble shooting" or "microwave door switch". You might have blown a fuse or the switches are bad. Not sure if it will fix your problem but might be worth a try. Seems to be a common problem for multiple brands of microwaves. Hope this helps.

Check the measurements of the original Microwave. Ours was a standard 30 inches. When our Microwave went out, we replaced it with a new GE microwave from Lowes. We were able to use the existing mounting plate (with minor modifications).
