Boulder Beach campground is about 5 miles from Hoover Dam, in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
We spent December 30 - January 4 at Boulder Beach in Boulder City, NV and we just went back there in April 2025. Here is my review for those who may be traveling through Nevada.
PROS:
~ The price is awesome. $20 a night, and if you have a National Parks pass you get into the Lake Mead National Recreation Area for free. If you do NOT have a National Parks pass you'll need to pay the park entrance fee. The pass is SO worth the $80 a year though, and you can purchase it right there at the gate if you don't have one.
~ Feels very safe. I particularly enjoy walking the campground at night with my flashlight.
~ Sunrise and sunsets here are amazing. (Pic is included for reference)
~ If you like walking, you can walk the park itself or you can walk out in the surrounding area. LOTS of places to walk / run / cycle.
~There are a lot of nice RV sites that offer some measure of privacy.
~ 135 sites in total, and 15 of them are pull-through.
~ Although there are no dedicated individual water hookups, there are a lot of community water spigots where you can fill your tanks.
~ There are lots of trees. Some RV parks are just like big parking lots. Ugh. This one feels so nice and cozy.
~ There are several bathroom buildings, which is convenient especially on your nightly walk.
~ It's quiet. Waaaay off the road and is zero road noise.
~ Each site has a fire ring and a concrete picnic table.
~ RV sites are all paved.
~ It's very dark at night, which I love for stargazing (except for the outer edge of loop G, where we stayed, which I will get to in the "Cons" section)
CONS:
~ We didn't realize it when we booked, but the outer G Loop (sites 89 - 94) are adjacent to the Ranger Station which is lit up from dusk to dawn by very bright orange colored mercury streetlights. Next time we will just avoid reserving on the G Loop and choose a site that is darker at night.
~ There are no electric hookups, although we don't need it, but for someone who does that would be a potential drawback.
~ Since these aren't full hookup sites there are no individual dumps on the sites but there is a dump station at the top on your way out. You may have to wait in line but it's nice to be able to dump before you get on the road.
Happy Camping!
