Roof Problem

I have a 2022 Grand Design 22MLS. I purchased it new two years ago. I noticed a little water leak so I took it to an authorized GD repair shop. They took one look at it and said I need a new roof. They said they see it all the time with Grand Design roofs.
They said it's just poor manufacturing.
I called Grand Design and opened a claim. Within a day they came back and denied my claim, and said they would not help pay for the roof.
They said due to lack of maintenance. And granted, I should have had it inspected more often. But really, two years and it's shot. I have owned quite a few trailers and know a lot of people with trailers. Never heard of a roof going bad in two years without it being a manufacturing issue.
Oh, and here's the kicker. Grand Design said they wouldn't cover it because I didn't have it inspected every 90 days as the manual states. Who gets their rood inspected every 90 days. That's put in there for them to use as an "exit plan".
It doesn't sound like I'm the only one having roof issues with Grand Design. Has anyone heard of any class action lawsuits about this. I really feel it's time to get legal involved in this issue. Does anyone have suggestions.

No class action lawsuits.

All manufacturer's have the 90 day clause in their warranty. It surely is a maintenance item.
They can fail and open up at any time, especially traveling down the road. The whole "box" moves.

That said, there is an issue with cracked solar ports on some units. The Furrion solar ports can crack and allow water in. If that is the case, then you have cause to get GD involved.

If it is because a sealant opened up, then that is on you...

Oh, and I won't say I "inspect" my roof every 90 days, but I am on it several times a year for this specific reason. Have done it on every RV I owned.

Some pictures would be good to describe what you’re dealing with. For example, on my last trailer I was told I needed a new roof due to a couple pin hole size holes where a branch must’ve hit. Or a bird pecked. Who knows. I’d have put some Eternabond over them and called it good.

I highly doubt the membrane has failed so I'm guessing that you had leaks around roof penetrations. You probably need new sheathing in those areas?
Pics would really help. Hard to tell if the dealer's giving you the run around and trying to get $$$$ out of you.
Where exactly is it leaking?

I have a sticker by the other stickers near the door, that sais to inspect seals, caulking, and such every 90 days. Do i, no, should i probably.

Arkansas Flex Armor which was at our last rally in arkansas sad sadly Grand Design RV s are their #1 customer 10to 1 over other brands go figure .

I had my 22 mle flex armored to stay ahead of this issue. I didnt like the bubbles in the roof membrane even though I was was told it was normal. seems they would take the time to address the initial install issue

We had to have our 2019 Solitude roof replaced with a Flex Armor roof this year. The shop we used was in NC. They also told us that they replace alot of Grand Design Solitude and Reflections. We reported roof issues (bubbling near the front cap) to the dealership when we first purchased (new) and Grand Design about a year or so later. We were also told that it was "normal". The seal on the front cap and " bubbling" caused air to get under the TPO roofing material and then tore it around the brackets of the front a/c unit. When we first talked with Flex Armor, he suggested we talk with our insurance company. Luckily, they agreed to pay for the Flex Armor install for wind damage. We love the Flex Armor roof and highly recommend it for piece of mind.

I wish I’d gone that route. I had the exact same failure/tear on the AC unit brackets, but GD had the dealership replace the roof under warranty. It may have been cheaper in the long run had I reached out to insurance to get the roof I plan to get at some point anyway.

A tree came down and harpooned our roof a ripped a line of holes in the roof material. I filed and insurance came and ended up replacing it the Roof Amour product. It’s fantastic and should be standard equipment on every rv.

I have a 2023 Solitude that I bought in late 2022. The dealer had said inspections were required every 6 months, which I have done and re-sealed suspicious looking areas. I took it to a dealership to get an annual inspection and they wanted $2k to re-seal where they felt it was needed. I took it to a different dealership for a 2nd opinion and they said it was fine, no work was needed. Both extremes worry me, I imagine it somewhere in the middle.
Does Flex Armour work as good as it claims? I would certainly be up for a maintenance free (or at least reduced) roof v/ paying 1-2k per year for touch ups!

CPoh, FlexArmor has a lifetime transferable warranty. I've had it on two 5th wheels. Yes it is as good as it claims. No maintenance needed but I do wash it a couple of times a year.

Yes! It’s absolutely worry free! I figured why replace that thin, vulnerable membrane when you can’t something so much tougher and lifetime warranty? Plus, it was about 25% less.

I suppose if it becomes necessary at some point, I would repair my roof by replacing it with something like FlexArmor. But until then I feel that it's like replacing your non-leaking roof because it MIGHT leak someday. I can see replacing tires before they fail, but a roof? JMO of course.

Bingo. These things depreciate fast enough on their own so dropping $5K+/- for something that's not broke seems like a waste of money.

i just had my 2023 GD solitude FBR373 total roof replacement and all 4 slides I bought it new but roof looked terrible it sat on dealers lot 200 + days so I elected to have aero armor platinum package done.
It’s amazing and guaranteed for life and transferable warranty
Rain is 90% quieter unreal very happy so far takes up to 2” hail it’s the best
Had it done at Patriot RV in Aubrey Texas in October
Also had true toppers instead of slide topper installed

That's definitely a plus, but how many people keep their trailers more than a few years? And I don't believe you'd get back anywhere near the money spent. Our present trailer is nearly 6 years old, the roof is still looking good, and our previous SOB trailer was 10 years old with no issues. I just wonder if all the social media input, and YouTube videos don't make people think there are issues when they are few, in reality. JMO of course.
