Roof Problem

Well, it’s the weakest most vulnerable part of the RV and an issue could lead to extensive insidious damage from moisture. If you have a FW and camp in a places with trees, possibly low hanging I’d say it a good investment.

It’s right up there with the Morryde independent suspension. Maybe never realize the benefits of it, but it gives some a peace of mind. The other weak link of towables.

Only real downside I can think of beyond the obvious cost is alterations to the roof top. Solar panels, replacing vents, etc. Can’t just hop up there and remove some dicor for the job. That could be an issue. With that, It’s great it stands up to hail, but usually it’s the plastic bits up there that get damaged. I think even a rubber roof is somewhat resilient when it comes to hail.

I have a 2023 Solitude that I bought in late 2022. The dealer had said inspections were required every 6 months, which I have done and re-sealed suspicious looking areas. I took it to a dealership to get an annual inspection and they wanted $2k to re-seal where they felt it was needed. I took it to a different dealership for a 2nd opinion and they said it was fine, no work was needed. Both extremes worry me, I imagine it somewhere in the middle.
Does Flex Armour work as good as it claims? I would certainly be up for a maintenance free (or at least reduced) roof v/ paying 1-2k per year for touch ups!
Call Roland Shepard at Patriot RV in Aubrey Texas I had the platinum Aero Armor package done on roof and slides along with true toppers instead of Slide toppers guaranteed for life and up to 2” hail it’s a very white reflective coating reduces heat exposure to roof I only run 1 of 3 AC units due to the new efficiency rating of aero armor on everything above rain is 90 % quieter then stock roof I didn’t believe them till a huge downpour in Corpus Christi in October it’s really quiet now all we could do is smile 😊

Slides too? Flex Armor didn’t do slides. How does the true topper work on slides that have a tall lip on the extended end.

Bingo. These things depreciate fast enough on their own so dropping $5K+/- for something that's not broke seems like a waste of money.
I agree with that. Not looking for a preemptive replacement, but when it’s time I’d like to upgrade to something better and less maintenance hassle.

That's definitely a plus, but how many people keep their trailers more than a few years? And I don't believe you'd get back anywhere near the money spent. Our present trailer is nearly 6 years old, the roof is still looking good, and our previous SOB trailer was 10 years old with no issues. I just wonder if all the social media input, and YouTube videos don't make people think there are issues when they are few, in reality. JMO of course.
Anyone who buys this trailer down the road will not have to pay for a new roof ever
I elected for this protection because we are full time RVers and enjoy the benefits of this as we can sleep through rainstorms now try that with a stock roof lol.
It’s not for everyone but not much more then a stock replacement so well worth it

Yes all 4 slide aero armor and roof
They cut existing flange down flush with roof of slide and true topper slides over top and covers top of slides great sealing to wall too
sleek and no flopping in the wind like slide toppers
True topper clears and cleans debris when closing then seal top closed

Yeah, I happen to like the sound of rain on the roof, and it never keeps me awake. Not an asset there. :)

My train of thought on preemptively replacing the roof is....

I still work and have limited time off, and have witnessed a roof balloon and the discussion in the campground of next steps with a leaky roof on vacation.

To me the $5k with warranty is a small price to pay for a worry free roof and removing one possible problem with the trailer on a trip.

LOL I did the tru topper as well. Had it install last february in daytona. Very satisfied, Extra measure of keeping water out of the slide while in storage and not having to go one the roof and sweep before retracting.

Far as the lip goes, the build a resin ramp on the long top edge so all of the debris can be pushed over the top.

FWIW: our roof failed at about the 8 year mark. Insurance wouldn't cover it, and I didn't even bother asking GD since it was past the 5 year warranty. We got Ziollo (linked, and no, I don't get anything if you buy off that link) "paint" and tape for a lot less than $5K. We taped the edges, ACs, and solar panels then painted the roof. Not only was it not overly difficult but we found the rig stayed significantly cooler after we applied the product. I will probably put this on every RV I buy from now on.

A tree came down and harpooned our roof a ripped a line of holes in the roof material. I filed and insurance came and ended up replacing it the Roof Amour product. It’s fantastic and should be standard equipment on every rv
Just a note, there is a difference between Roof Armor and FlexArmor. FlexArmor is sprayed on at a shop and carries the lifetime, transferable warranty. It is bonded to the roof and other items like the ladder, skylight, a/c mounts, solar panel mounts, and is about 2" thick. It dries within minutes of being sprayed on. Environment where installed is controlled.

Roof Armor is a product you can buy online and install yourself. There are companies that will come to you and install. It is basically called rolled on. Product description says it has a 15 year warranty.

If you need/want to repair a roof, do your research to see which one is right for you. For us, with the roof problems, FlexArmor was our choice and we are very happy with it. And yes, it does make rain quieter :)

2020 grand design reflections 5ver 237mk.

I have been keeping an eye on the roof, just looking from time to time. I fulltime. I did/do, not keep records of it.

But, mine is more so just gassing, is that normal, dont know, is it bad, not yet.

On a hot sunny day, ( again i did not take temps and jot them down ) calm, it gasses after a wile, then later it goes down.
Traveling, stopping for gas, checking when im in the mood, no bubbling. Today in New Mexico, about 75f light wind, no clouds, no bubbles. Where i left in Texas last month with both AC units going, i got bubbles, i was in the sun, they went away by morning. Then back. Then gone.

The bubbles do move where they appear, so not overly consistent.

This is just my findings so far, im not overly worried.

Could be worse, the gasses could be going inside.......

Its probably that darn 40r insulation ratting on the roof. ;)

3-4 years of touch ups would pay for the new roof. Mine is fabulous. :)
