Has anyone experienced and increased amount of up and down movement while traveling with the Roto-flex pin box?
During a recent trip I had an issue that the trailer bounced an excessive amount to the point of the sliding door to the den came off the rail.
I noticed that during the trip the plate and head unit of my hitch was at a 15 degree angle. there is over 3/16 inch of clearance between the bumper and the plate on the backside of the kingpin plate with all of the weight on the front of the hitch. The angle of the head unit and the kingpin plate cause increase pressure and stress on the latch mechanism at the rear of the head unit. When we hit the dip in the road this allowed our unit additional slack and consequently more freedom of vertical movement. My previous trailer was 3110 Cyclone with a stock kingpin box and did not have any issues like this during our 4000 mile trip last summer.
I have a bagged 2005 GMC 2500 with 47 pounds of pressure in the bags using a Demco Hijacker Autoslide hitch with the under bed mounting.
I have contacted Lippert and their response was, "Our product looks to be performing as designed. I cannot comment or advise on other products. I would advise checking with a receiver outfitter."
There was not an issue with the receiver hitch in any way after putting over 4000 miles with the Cyclone using the stock 1621 kingpin box.
I love the Demco hijacker hitch and I see no reason that its design would cause the issue I experienced.
I need some advice of what I should do to prevent additional damage to my unit.
