Wondering about the safety of running my generator overnight. Paranoid about co, in that it’s located right under the forward sleeping compartment. Anyone done this and lived to tell about it? Lol.

I do it all the time. Assuming your someplace where its allowed and/or not disturbing others.

I'll run it when we're at the race track so I can run the AC fan to cover the noise from others around that forget there are neighbors and bring open frame construction geney's and run them all night:mad:

Our motor homes had the generator under the bedroom. We’re still breathing. I kept a portable co alarm in the bedroom just in case.

You already have a carbon monoxide detector in the bedroom. Just test it before turning in for the night. Make sure you keep the windows closed.

Just ran our genny for 18 hours under the overhang near the drivers side, exhaust pointed out toward the open air. I've seen people put them under a slide out also, again exhaust pointed out toward the open air.
Yes keep the windows closed.

Portable Inverter gennys are real quiet and most have an eco mode that quiets them evenmore. Our neighbor saw us running our Predator 3500 genny in the campground ran out and bought a new portable Cummins 4500 dual fuel for $1300. Fell in love with it. Of course in the aftermath of hurricane Helene once it got up to Ohio and Indiana our campground didn't care if we ran our gennys.

Campground owner has a portable, they can run their propane pump or their well pump and keep the campground supplied.

@RV2600RB Sorry I should have been a little more clear in my response. The OP’s Solitude should have a CO detector in the bedroom above the bed. Different makes and models put them in all kinds of strange places.

Personally we don’t, but I’m more paranoid about a malfunction, fuel leak, fire, etc. than CO, since there is a detector for that. Ours is a permanent install in the front compartment tho. If it was a portable outside, I’d probably not think twice.

We do it for 10 or 11 nights when camping at the Daytona 500 and also for 5 or 6 nights at the Dover Delaware race... never been any problem. Here's our setup under the front of the 5er.

I'm surprised so many folks find running a generator overnight routine.
When my wife complained, I repeatedly found ways to make mine quieter, until I realized if she could hear it at all, it was too loud.
We've been to the Formula 1 track outside Austin, realize looking for quiet is hopeless there, but most of the time we're looking for places where we can hear the sounds of the forest.
So our solution involves solar panels and battery banks.

Well then. I guess it’s ok! Didn’t occur to me that the detector on the ceiling was co. Thanks for all the responses.

Totally agree. We haven't run our generator in over two years with the solar and Lithium battery upgrades and we have a super quiet Yamaha. We try and avoid camping locations where people run their generators all hours of the day or night.
