Satellite installation- Is it easy?

Hello all,

I just purchased a Winegard Travler SK SWM3 satellite that I plan on installing on my Solitude 369RL. Have any of you installed your own on your solitude or had it professionally done? I was going to have a professionally installer come out to do it, but they want $800 to do it. I’ve heard it should only cost maybe $150 to have professionally installed. My reservations about doing it myself is messing up my roof and having to run cables. I believe the solitude is Satellite ready correct? Ill take deliver next week, so forgive me if I am missing something.

Thank you

If you are a Good Sam member they install anything for $39 I beleive! Quite a bit different from $800!!

O yea, I forgot about that, but I would have to drop off the unit at camping world right? or would they come out to me?

I'm sure you would have to take it to them but if you combined a trip somewhere close to a Good Sam dealer then you could make a definite appointment and wait while it's done. We haven't had one installed so I don't know how long it would take. I wouldn't think more than a couple of hours at most. An ipad and a couple of cups of coffee later and you've saved a lot of money!!! There always seems to be a Good Sams on major highways on the way to a campgound!

Camping World will install anything "they sell" for $39. If you bought it somewhere else, the cost would be more.

Yes, and when you read the fine print, $39 install is simple items, not everything.

For a sat like that, you will have wires and data cables to run to the roof. The Solitudes are sat ready, but the hook ups are in the central hook up area. Also, you need to install the update port on the interior of the coach.

Install is not as straight forward as most people think.....

Update port??? Hunter is this something I can have the dealer do? or is it something I can do? what would that run?

Yup, most permanently mounted sat dishes have to have an update port installed for software changes.

I would highly recommend having a certified installer install that dish.

I think we usually get 4-5 hours labor, plus parts, so around $500-600.

Wow, ok. Looks like that is what I will have to do than. Thanks

We had a Traveler Satellite moved from our old rig to our Solitude as part of our deal. Glad we had it included as it took the tech almost 12 hrs to run all the cables and install the dish. Lots of work but they did a great job.
