My Schwintek Slideout Assembly needs to be replaced. Both bottom racks have broken shoes, chewed up racks, 1 broken bearing block and 1 bottom V-Roller Assembly chipped. I contacted Lippert and found out I have an inverted model and had to order the current model to replace it. I also asked about the lack of rollers on the bottom of the slide. He told me there should be rollers and to contact Grand Design. Is there a way to fix the problem of the slideout weight on the Swintech System when going in and out? Can rollers be added if GD did not design for rollers? 2020 Imagine 2450RL .

I can't imagine that GD would have sold any Schwintek intentionally without rollers and don't see how the slide would work long at all without them---as in failing the first few times to maybe barely extending 100 times (of course I am guessing).

A Google search including "Imagine slide missing roller " (not extensive) seemed to only show yours without rollers. Could the roller have loosened or broke and fell off?

Consider very carefully and well supported! extending slide (if you can) and lifting the outer portion and looking to see if there are bolt holes or other that would mount the roller(s). They should be close enough that your hand could reach in and touch it. I am not familiar with specific GD design but it should be very similar to what I have seen.

Could Grand Design provide information? Try to order a support roller from GD. Also giving Lippert your serial number, they may be able to give the part numbers involved. I would suspect that the roller support design is very similar or exactly the same as many GD TT, especially with similar length sides. Wider slides will have more rollers. Lippert manual specifies how close the rollers should be spaced.

Sorry that I can't provide specific information on your model.

I can’t find any evidence that rollers were ever installed. I have contacted GD and am waiting for response. Tried looking on GD parts loo up website but could not find rollers for my model.

The mobile tech was wrong about missing rollers. Grand Design asked for pictures of my problems and when I got underneath the slideout myself I was able to barely see the top of a roller and end nut on it. Boy do I feel stupid. I should have had the tech show me what he was looking at. I now wonder about the other problems.

Very good to hear that you got to the bottom of the roller question! You should not feel dumb. You hired a person that should know what they are doing, and we should be able to rely on them for the basics and not have to check everything that they do.

So for the next challenge: do you investigate yourself, consider using same tech or find someone else to do the work?

The Lippert Schwintek documentation (assembly, trouble-shooting,...) and free training videos are useful and there also some YouTube videos (less time for quick overview of how the slide works versus Lippert video).

One quick check is take a few photos of the aluminum racks that are mounted on the side of slide and post them to get opinions on the damage. Generally, the most wear is near the ends, maybe the upper.

Lippert may only sell the parts in kits so if rack is significantly damaged, drive gears need to be changed. The shoe likely is part of kit and should be changed while drive assembly is off. Vee roller could be part of kit. If slide moves out the motors and controller are fine and would not be part of the same kit.

So what I am saying is that if the rack needs to be changed it really does not matter if the other mentioned parts are bad since the drive mechanism has to come out anyway. I doubt if any of the parts you mentioned can be changed without removing drive mechanism.

Thanks. I will not use the same tech again. I have been investigating the problems on YouTube and Lippert site. Found a great tech that posted very good information on fixing or replacing the Schwintek System. The Lippert has manuals and videos available that has helped also.

My Lippert replacement system will be here today via UPS. I plan to just replace the entire system since some parts for the Inverted model are not available or hard to find the correct part. I plan to do the work myself based on what I found online.

I was unable to attach the video recording all the noise the slide makes going out.

Good for you! You clearly are on top of this. Double check that the parts are mounted in the correct location and not just rely on existing mounting holes (Lippert shows what to check in the trouble-shooting) like parallel racks, ... but by now you have found this.

I say this because the very experienced mobile tech that I used just mounted parts in the same location and the rack teeth showed damage soon after. Then I had to go to a lot of trouble to first convince the tech that things were wrong and get factory to cover the warranty again. Since all this, the slide has been flawless with a lot of use. I do a true full sync now and then, which is more than just holding the open close button for 5 seconds after stopping.

Finished replacing the Schwintek Slide-out system. Taking the old system out was much harder than expected since GD used hardening sealants that would not scrape off. Had to use solvent and electric multi-tool to get the parts off and clean up the surfaces. I used XFasten Black Butyl Tape for the H-Columns and Pro Flex RV Clear Flexible Sealant as caulking around edges of parts to keep moisture out.
When installing new parts as I expected none of the holes lined up so I had to fill in all the holes for the 4 racks and 2 H-columns. Then made new holes and followed the Lippert measurements in the manuals. Everything went smooth after that and it works great! Wife very happy.

Sounds like you did it well!
