Hi guys need some help. Took my Rv in for some warranty Work, was told by the dealership there is a long list of open sealants and Grand Design will not cover as it is passed the 6mo sealant warranty??? Here is the list of items that are being resealed 7.5 Hrs of work @150 an hour. Needless to say is this typical? This is our first RV and just need to make sure its not something I maybe did wrong or is this maintenance I am supposed to be doing every 6 MO? Seems excessive for an 8mo old unit. Might be just my lack of knowledge.

Here is the list of open sealants:
RIGHT SIDE
-outlet
-top of the entry door
-the top front cap to gutter is separating
ROOF
-3 vents/fans
-2 tank vents
-wineguard
LEFT SIDE
-front compartment
-both refer vents
-microwave exhaust
-beltline above fuel fill
both back windows
REAR
-garage door

This dealer is scamming you for a big job
Don’t give them 5 cents

Call a mobile tech and get an honest quote or do it yourself

Run from this dealer

This doesn't sound right. Have you done your own visual inspection to confirm what your dealer is quoting? Are there really cracks? If so it's not hard to DIY. We can guide you.

Thanks unfortunately they spoke with my wife this am and she approved since they said it was necessary and we needed to pick it up tomorrow for a trip. They did say that Grand design will cover 2hrs of the work? I have a call in to Grand Design as well to ask them because frankly it seems like a warranty issue if it is one. The dealership is a good 2hrs away from us so I did not visually confirm it.

Definitely not a warranty claim. It is a dealership scam 100 percent
A bet a mobile tech would charge you 200 or less to touch up these areas
Your choice to give them over a 1000 but I wouldn’t

They will be quoting you this every year

7.5 hours to reseal stuff???????????? Are you kidding me????????????

I could reseal everything on your list in less than an hour for less than $100 in sealant. It's dealerships like this that give the industry such a horrible reputation. Shame on them.

Well either they are scamming you or your trailer came from the factory improperly sealed. No way of telling without photos, but I would make sure that you take pictures of all of these supposed sealant issues.
Best of luck...

FYI to all of you....I looked at this unit this morning. The roof is the easy thing to seal, clean the old sealant and go over it with new ALPHA sealant.

Those saying you can do the entire job in an hour, have you ever scraped off cured silicone, cleaned the area, and reapplied? You can't do a 6 ft linear run in an hour.....

Doing it right takes time, and yes, all the listed areas have gaps and cracks.

We are still working with GD to get more labor hours covered.....

I'm actually working on downloading the pictures of all the issues as I type this.

And the tech corrected me, GD doesn't use silicone (at least on the Momentum line) it is urethane, which is twice as hard to remove, clean, and reapply.

There is a reason that all manufacturer's have a 6 month sealant warranty, and it is because they are rolling homes. Things move, twist, shift. Maintenance is key.

Yes, you hear about the guy with a 13 year old unit that "never needed anything sealed".....what he fails to tell you is that it is a seasonal and hasn't moved for 13 years.

Gonna take a couple tries for pics...

How many miles have you put on? I've had fifth wheels with 30-40,000 miles that never had those issues. I'm wondering if you have an underlying issue causing all of this movement? That is not normal.

I agree. I wonder what the build date is as well. They may have only owned it for 8 months but when was it made
This amount of degradation I have never seen
Also my biggest issue is the 150 dollars an hour. That is a joke. Maybe for a top tech doing electrical or slide work but I am sure a guy being paid peanuts is tasked to fix this. I could be entirely wrong though

I'm not a fan of RV dealers...lots of good mobile techs out there though. To me it looks like a weld issue somewhere. That's just way too much movement. And of course the RV dealer should have seen that immediately.

Standard shop rate......some dealers are higher, some are lower.

Doesn't matter if it is a body job, replacing a light bulb, or changing a tire. All jobs based by the 10th of an hour.

The OP (owner) requested that we do a sealant check.

We documented and reported back, as requested.

Unit gets a full PDI inspection as required by GD to activate warranty.

PA also demands a PA Safety inspection yearly (as well as new) which looks at frame, wheels, tires, brakes, directional lights, etc.
