Seeking Advice on Replacing Bed Frame in Reflection 337RLS (Bed Slide Out)

Hi everyone,

We have a Grand Design Reflection 337RLS with a bed slide-out, and we’re looking to replace the current bed support with something lower that allows for better air circulation along the hitch side slide out wall and closet. Our plan is to remove the existing wooden bed support and replace it with this Amazon bed frame (10-inch high version).

Since there is an 8-inch step up from the bedroom floor to the RV floor, we are considering not attaching the legs on the headboard side of the new frame. Instead, we’d use boards from the hardware store to make up the 2-inch difference and have the head of the bed rest on the slide-out platform itself.

Our main concern:

  • Will placing the bed frame this way impact the functionality of the slide-out?
  • Has anyone here done something similar or have experience with modifying the bed support in a slide-out?
I’ve done some searching, but I haven't found anything where people change bed frame itself. Before we purchase the new frame and start taking things apart, we’d love to hear any insights or potential issues from those who have done something similar.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Edited to add clarification on what we need the circulation for.

Maybe someone with some experience in modifying their mattress support will comment. I’m doubtful anything will actually allow for better air circulation from the bottom through and to the top, especially if you have a foam mattress.

Sleep Number sells a device that blows air that sits on top of a mattress and under the bedding. Amazon may too.

Oh, sorry! I mean air flow in the room in general, not for the mattress. We have Den Dry (Den-Dry Undermattress Anti-Condensation Pad) under the bed and have painted the supporting wood with mold resistant paint as well.

We want extra airflow to the hitch side of the bed slide out and the closet.

Have you given any thought to modifying the exsisting frame? lower and add vent holes. This might allow for some short storage for extra bedding or used but not often items.

Uh, I hate to sound stupid, but wouldn't an 8-inch fan on the floor in that niche in front of the washer/dryer area do the same thing for a whole lot cheaper?

That's what we do in our 315RLTS.
