shore power inlet location

Hey all-
This may have already been addressed somewhere, but I'm going to ask again...why did GD put the shore power inlet on the back of the dang trailer instead of the middle like most mfgs.? 99% of the campgrounds put their pedestal in the middle of the site as well. Trying to set up our 40' in site, I have to position it so the power cord will reach the pedestal. This makes me have to put the unit in not the best place for the slide outs, awnings, parking the truck, etc.
So, am I stuck having to buy an extension for the 50 amp cord??

That's what I would do......and mine is in the middle, just ahead of the living room/kitchen slide. Having an extension will definitely cut down on your headaches with regard to this.....unless you plan on moving the power inlet somewhere else. It is what it is, and now you know about it, so just get to cord and make life easier for yourself. I have an extension for mine....and I've had to use it a couple of times, so ...money well spent instead of a headache for ya.

Only a couple models like that. Must be a reason for it.

Our 2022 Reflection 315 RLTS travel trailer had the connection in the center. The 50A outlet at our winter base is at the back of the lot, so there was no problem. When I redid the electrical system I decided to hardwire the shore power cord to the Hughes Power Watchdog, which is located in the front pass-through. That means that, when we are at The Ranch, I have to use an extension cord. No big deal. As you say, most campgrounds have the power pedestal closer to the center of the site. We just headed out last week, and both of the sites we've had so far have had the pedestal toward the front half of the trailer.

The only campground we regularly visit where I need my extension cord is Holland State park at the beach. It’s a back in site and my power inlet is at the back, but I still need an extension cord to reach back and over to the panel. People with side mounted power inlets often have problems there because the box may be behind the neighbor’s rig making you run your cord in an L shape from a side mounted port.

My cord is plenty long to reach mid-site boxes easily with the rear connection, but I have a big advantage reaching distant boxes behind me. I wouldn’t change mine if I could. Can’t see any negative of the rear mount.

I agree^^^^ No issues with our rear cord connection, but we do have a long cord.
