Sleeper/couches need to go

Our two couches have the dreaded peeling fake leather. I bet they would be expensive to reupholster. Thought of covers or just pull them out. There is this ledge though that the existing couches cover up. Has anyone replaced these, covered the couches, or put something else there instead of the sleeper/couches? If so, what did you put there? I hate having people over with these couches pealing. We already replaced the theater seating for the same reason.
