Slide Topper on Imagine 2670

I have a Imagine 2670 on order presently. I would like to have
input on placing a slide topper on the curb side/ door side slide.
I know there are pros and cons to this placement. A lot of
dealers want you to use the awning to cover the slide. My
current 5 th wheel has topper on all 3 slides. I do not want
to climb up to clear the slide before closing. Please comment.

I'm like you that I would prefer to have a topper on every slide. It is quite common that we do not use the awning but we would always put out the slide. When we have looked at trailers with curb side slides what I looked at was if there was enough clearance to install a topper. I found on some the awning would rub on the topper roller which looks like trouble with torn awnings down the road. It is the potential for awning damage that made us decide that we would not purchase a trailer with curb side slide.

To me, it all depends on whether you can put the topper there without it interfering with the awning. I installed our slide topper on the living room slide, under the awning. Enough room, and it's not a problem.

Our first 4-1/2 years full-timing were without slide toppers. I didn't really miss having them except when we spent time in the east around lots of trees or when there was ice or snow. When we upgraded our RV for the long term, Laura was adamant that she didn't want me, as I get older, climbing a ladder or getting on top of the rig to clear off the slides every time we move (we typically don't stay in one place long-term). We ordered our new Solitude with slide toppers. We have weathered a tropical storm and other weather fronts with winds gusting above 40 MPH. Yes - the awnings were noisy (there are ways to deal with that), but we feel that, in the balance, they are worth it for us. Carefree of Colorado are what came on our January 2020 build.
