slides in or out

We use our RV every weekend, it is in our summer camp. We leave the slides out while we are gone during the week. Is this ok?

Just personal opinion: I think it is OK to leave them out, but I would bring them in maybe once a month just to keep the mechanism operating.

BTW: We loved your part of the country. We spent a couple days in Clarkston, as we started a cruise on the Snake/Columbia Rivers westward to Astoria. Hope to get back in that area and spend more time.

I'd check the long term weather forecast. If it's going to be stormy for the upcoming week, retract the slides.

The are open on the sales lot from the time the get delivered until the new owners come to get them...

Mine resides on a seasonal site and stay out. As Ken stated I run them in then back out once a month then run them in when the season is over. I'm sitting in a camp resort and every single RV in here that has slides leaves them out during the season. I also recommend installing slide toppers. Not so much to keep water off but to keep debris off and act as a buffer for falling tree limbs. They are meant to be out and not leak, if they do there is a problem. I left them out on my old Springdale TT during the season for 14 years.

FWIW mine were not out on the dealer lot and there was no battery in it either. They used a rolling battery pack to operate slides when shown and put a nice fresh new battery in before my PDI.

I always wondered what was best. I've come to realize that they should be ok in or out.

I have always left mine out to give another layer of shade to my tires. I did it on my last few trailers, and never had a problem with them. Here in Arizona, we don't have trees around the RV, so I don't worry about installing slide toppers.

Yeah, I often wonder why this question is actually asked as often as it is but I can think of nothing, structurally or otherwise, that would make leaving them out for an hour or forever, different. Our trailer is kept beside our house and the slides are always out.

My question would be why people wonder about this? Maybe I'm missing something.

I can see a benefit of occasionally bringing them in and out just to keep the mechanism lubricated as suggested.
