Smoke detectors

Anyone else have issue with the smoke decters going off in their campers? Every time we cook it seems it goes off, and no we aren't burning the food! It also seems like the microwave vents to the inside of the trailer instead of the outside. I guess thatbis one more thing to add to the punch list when the trailer goes in for service.

Every RV I've ever had has this issue. Even though you're not "burning" the food, it still gives off particulates that set off the smoke detector in an enclosed area such as an RV. I've resorted to taking down the RV while cooking in order to prevent the issue. You just need to make sure you put it right back up when you're done.

Replace the factory installed "ionization" type detctor with a "photoelectric" type detector (available at most hardware stores). That should greatly reduce the problem of those false alarms from cooking particulates like "steam". Leave the one in the bedroom alone. It is a carbon monoxide detector. They look the same but are not. The one to change is the one mounted on the ceiling in the kitchen area. The one mounted on the island near the floor is the LP gas detector. Leave that one alone as well.

Kidde Corporation also sells detectors that have a 5 or 6 minute silence button if the alarm goes off when no real hazard is present.

Thanks all. I will be replace mine with a photoelectric one this week before heading out for the Memorial Day weekend.
