Has anyone installed the SoftStartRV unit on a Furrion A/C. We have a 15,000btu Furrion Chill unit on our Imagine 22MLE and I’d like to install a soft start unit on our camper. The two I’m considering are the MicroAir and the SoftSartRV models.

Do you have an internal EMS in your rig ? If not, some make them now that also include SoftStart technology. Last fall I installed the MicroAire unit in my rig.

No my EMS is an external unit so I don’t need an integrated soft start, looking for a unit to mount in A/C unit.

Is using an external soft start system like the SoftStartUP an option? It would seem it could be plugged after the EMS at the pole (al-be-it that's a lot of external connections.

Just throwing out the thought.....

Well then +1 MicroAire. I have not evaluated others as I found these to be simple to install and effective. If you don't get the optional wiring kit, with MicroAire, make sure you have (1) of THESE on hand for install.

I did install the MicroAire on our 22MLE and it worked great. I removed it and put it on the 23LDE when we upgraded to that unit. You could either go with the wired version or the type now built into the EMS that you plug into the pedestal. Obviously, the second version is easier, a bit more expensive, and if you ever have a surge that takes out that unit, then you have to get a new one (or send in for repair). It's easy enough to install the wired version so you might go that route if you have already purchased a pedestal device.

Does anyone know if there is much of a difference between brands or capabilities of the soft starters? Searching through Amazon, and even RV part stores, there seems to be quite a difference in prices. Since we have 3 AC units, I'd like to find the cheapest, but don't want to get something that wears out after one season or doesn't work at all. I know the "Soft Start" brand name is popular and advertises they are waterproof, but I'd think the other brands would work for half the cost. Any thoughts?

GNRWhite When I purchased mine, I did not consider price; I wanted reliability and otherwise better quality. I had an issue, with Micro-Aire, very early on. I was very impressed that tech support assisted me over the weekend. I used that experience as a big part of decision. But now, I have read there is a vendor making a single soft-start and he bakes that into the EMS system. Yes its all eggs in 1 basket but many report great reliability. They use the same Honda 2000 generator to test the system with favorable results. Would I put that unit on a pedestal, nope. Something that fancy will certainly grow legs. I choose to use hard-wired setup.

wudwork might be referring to something like the Active Start Surge Protector. These are pretty new in the last couple of years (or less). Might be something to check out though as it can be used in place of the individual soft start devices that you would put on each A/C. I don't have any insight on how well they work or anything but might be worth looking into.

I am planning on this upgrade before our next trip. What brand did u end up installing?

I went with the Soft Start Brand. I figure this is a pretty critical component that I don't want to skimp on quality. The instructions were very straightforward and easy to follow; just go step by step and look up your model number on their website. It really was a very easy install. Soft Start
