Solitude comes with Cooper tires but truck repair stations recommend "Falken Ri-151" tires

so my solitude came with cooper work series 215/75R17.5 which are available locally only if i take the tire off and bring in for replacement as they have no room for large trailers.

The truck repair places that have bays for large campers are recommending "Falken Ri-151" tires. More than one truck place has recommended the Falken brand (what trucks use) . Anyone hear of them or used them in the past.

Falken seem to have a good reputation, but so do the Cooper. Personally I would try to stay with the same brand tire that I had on the trailer. At least if you remove and replace the tire, you'll know the torque settings are correct. :)

it's just a pain in the but that cooper tire dealers do not have room to install a 41 foot rig.

and as far as i know torque settings are based on rims and size of the bolts used and will be the same for any brand tire...correct me if i am wrong

No, you're correct about the torque settings. But shops are notorious for using impacts to tighten the lug nuts, and some, maybe many, don't use a torque wrench for final tightening.

Can’t you buy the Cooper tires and take them with you to the truck place?

I just replaced my original Cooper Roadmaster tires with the Cooper Work Series tires. I was very pleased with the performance so that’s why I stayed with Cooper. I had to special order them from the local Discount Tire- ended up taking a couple months to arrive. But I did take the old tires in loose, two at a time for them to install. Yeah, kind of a bother but not too bad.

I looked up the Falken tire, and they say it is a "regional use" tire. Not sure if that really means anything other than there may be a different tire they make for extended freeway use.

When my Coopers are due for replacement, I am going to replace them with the same. With about 18K miles on them, they still look like they have at least another 15K+ miles left. Not sure how much of a difference, I have run on my truck both Coopers and Falkens, and I think the Coopers out perform the Falken.

What about going to Discount Tire, they replace a tire for me, but just a thought.

Why did you go with the Work Series instead of the Roadmaster? I had to replace one of my Roadmasters last year due to running over a box cutter blade. The RM170s are out of production, so I went with the same size in a RM272.

So far it's been great, but I did consider the Work Series. It seems they're both pretty close to the same price.

Mostly because that’s what I’ve seen on the new larger rigs- GD, Alliance, Brinkley, etc.
Oh, ok.

We had a bit of a discussion about the Coopers over here ..
