Hello. Just returned from a campground with absolutely filthy water. While it appeared to be fine for showering, we opted to brush our teeth, make coffee, drink from bottles we always have for on-the-go adventures. Now that we're back home I wanted to do a full sanitizing of my freshwater system. I pulled out the manual and it said because I have a Tankless, leave the H/C valves in normal mode and if you have a 6-gal tank, to switch them into Bypass mode. It then said to run the bleached fresh water through all your water lines (except the toilet to avoid killing the natural tank bacteria) and to run both the H & C until you smell the chlorine.

What the manual did not say was should the Tankless be turned on during this sanitizing cycle? When it's off, water comes out of the Hot side, just like the Cold side of the sink, but both are cold. It just wasn't clear if leaving the Tank off does the bypass for you OR if we're supposed to have it on so when the solution comes out the Hot side(in hot water) it would now be introducing the bleach to the inside of the Tankless. I thought due to aluminum or metal components we were supposed to avoid this, but I'm a novice RV owner.

To be safe, I left it off and cycled it through everything, H & C lines. It's been sitting for about 4 hours and I plan to flush everything tomorrow morning, so if you all tell me to turn the tankless to the on position and then run the shower and faucets valves again, I will. Please advise if I've done this correctly or if I have that extra step still to go.

Appreciate any help! Best.

Don’t have one but the sanitizing procedure should be the same weather the twh is on or off.
