Spray Foam on Frame Rails

I ordered a 200 board foot spray foam kit and today I spray foamed the frame rails to help conserve propane in winter camping. Two weeks ago while staying at our daughters home in Belgrade, MT we were going through 4 gallons of propane a day and the furnace would hardly ever turn off with the thermostat set at 68 degrees. I have since purchased reflective bubble wrap for the windows and now I have spray foamed the frame. In my opinion, this should work better than skirting. The coroplast has a foil barrier and then two inches of fiberglass on top of that, but no insulation at all for the frame rails. That is one hell of a heat sink when the frame rails are in the teens, the heater has no chance of making that area below the floor very warm. Stay tuned and I will report how well this works.

This may be a dumb question but did you spray the inside or outside of the rails? If you dropped the corollas did you check all the heating ducts? I like the foam idea and fixing the heating ducts will help a lot too. Maybe even replace the flexible duct work with something solid or a little better quality may help as well.

If there was a way to post photos here I would do that. I sprayed the outside of the frame rails, and also the steel cap on the drop frame. I made sure to seal off as much of the gaps as possible around the slideout penetrations also. I might have to try sticking a probe into the belly to see if it holds some temperature now that it is fully insulated and sealed. I checked the outside temps of the frame rails before with the furnace running and they were only about 10 degrees over ambient temp.

I believe when you post if you use the "go advanced" button you can attach pics. I think.....

Hi Nuffsaid,

There are a few different ways to add pictures. I find the simplest is to hit the "Go Advanced" tab on the lower right of a new post and scroll down to "Manage Attachments" Then "Add Files", "Choose File" and "Upload"

I have clicked on go advanced and I can't find anything that says manage attachments. More help please.

Scroll down . . . see attached screenshot.

I'd love to see the pics once you get them posted = following.

Jim, maybe that is the problem. How do I change it back? The layout seemed different.

I'm going to have to let someone else weigh in on that. I'm not familiar with Tapa talk. I tried it once and found it to be quite limited. If you access the forum via the internet and not tapa talk, you should have full access. The website is www.granddesignowners.com

I'm very interested in your results. I took a different route on my 315RLTS. I used reflectix insulation material on the inside of the frame rails.

I'm not a real tech savvy guy but find posting pictures here so easy a caveman could do it. In the toolbar at the top of reply screen, third from the right is "insert image". Click on it, select "from computer tab, click on "browse", find your picture, double click on it. When the file number (jpegxxx) shows in the little window, click upload and done.

It worked!
We'd like to see your pics but I don't and won't do facecrook.

To post pictures on tapatalk, click the orange reply arrow, then click the "+" icon, then click the source of the picture, I usually take the picture first then select gallery as the source and select one photo and click send. Do this for each photo, there is a max of three photos allowed per post.

Looks good, def curious how it works out. Have you considered painting it or are you going to leave it that color? I imagine it will get pretty dirty after driving with it over time. I suppose doing the outside vice the inside saved a lot of time and effort, it's probably the same effect in the long run.

I think painting it would be a good idea. Undercoating might be good too if it doesn't have a bad reaction.
