Starlink usage

I just got one of the Starlink kits and I was wondering if there are people using it and if it’s working as expected. I haven’t started my service yet but I was wondering about a few things. Do most people hard install the receiver or something they put out when camping? If it get set up when camping does it stay set up at night when sleeping or when it’s raining? Im not full time so will be using it ass needed or when on camping trips.
So, we have a bit of a different set up. I too have the newest with kickstand. Works great on the flagpole buddy on the back ladder. If too much tree cover, we just set it out on the ground with the kickstand.

what's different, is that we keep the power supply and router in the same black/yellow bin that the dishy lives in while we are rolling. So set up just entails pulling out the bin, mounting dishy to the pole and putting on the ladder, then plugging the power supply into the camp side slide, secure the lid, and pushing the bin under the slide. We saw this method on a couple of different forums - apparently pretty common set up. I did put a couple of cable outlet holes in the side of the bin up under the rim of the bin for the power cord and the signal cord so that I can snap the lid on completely before pushing under the slide.

router coverage is great inside and outside the trailer.

My wife and I both work remotely. We've been gone half the summer working out of our trailer. Starlink has been exceptional. Just need that clear view of the north as trees will impact the signal. Both in online meetings - no problem. Streaming HD movies - no worries.

I am thinking of taking advantage of the sale for the standard Starlink antenna, but I have one question. If I get it can I wait until next year to activate it for service the first time? I will only be traveling a few more weeks this year before putting my trailer in storage for the winter.

Correct. You can get the equipment first then activate your service when you are ready.

So here is my question for those that have a gen2 dish. How does one mount it on top pf the RV for in motion?
We have a friend who bought a 3D printed mount that they fastened to the roof of their RV. They next cut off the back of the Gen2 dish and permanently fastened the dish to the mount. The top of the dish ends up mounted flat, about 2-3" above the plane of the roof. Under the mount they put a hole in the roof and ran the cable from the dish down into the RV to the router. They have said they have been able to get service while driving down the road. They lost some speed since the dish no longer moves to point at different satellites. Since they had to cut off most of the back of the dish they can't go back.
If you want more details you can PM me and I can check with them to see if they have any pictures or details.

Edited because I have apparently forgotten how to type.

Reubebray, I bought mine from Best Buy in May of last year and didn't activate it until 3 months later. No problems.

Are there any short ethernet cables to get it out of my front compartment? I am looking for something that will stick out through my front compartment access hole to plug my longer cable into. I have my router and power supply mounted in the front compartment where I can't really access the router to plug into at each stop. My setup now requires me to pull all of the cable through the access hole.

I placed my dishy plug in near my right side propane tank. No holes to string the ethernet cable and plug to. It's super easy, out of the weather, and is open at the bottom. Router and DC power supplies are in the front compartment. I never need access to them.

I just got the StarLink Gen 3 system. I also bought the pole and pole mount from StarLink. I don’t travel with my trailer so I need a fixed mount. I purchased a kit on Amazon to mount the router and power pack to the pass through wall.
It was quick to set up after downloading the app. So far it works great for my application. I had Hughes Net before. It was like going back to the old days with AOL! Very slow.

We are just starting to explore this as well. For now I plan on putting our gen 2 with it's stand behind the cab of our truck on the tonneau cover. I will run the cable back to it's usual connection point inside the wet bay of our trailer. If that all works as it should I will explore other options. I have 2 gen 2's and will see if maybe someone will trade me a gen 3 for our spare 2 (or sell the 2 and buy a gen 3).
