We were supposed to leave the Escapee's Raccoon Valley RV Park near Knoxville TN this morning and head to the Escapee's Rainbow Plantation in Summerdale AL. Then over to New Orleans, then on I10 over to Beaumont TX, then down to Galveston for the winter.

But we have been watching the tropical storm and possibly changing into hurricane Rafael heading maybe into the gulf. Week Cat 1 or 2 winds but lots of rain/

We have had our reservations and scheduling set early this year. Changed all that yesterday and are staying here near Knoxville for another two weeks. That's OK this time, the Smoky Mts. are a great place to wait out the Gulf storms.
After the storm passes, wherever it's going, we plan to head directly to Galveston via West on I40 down to I30 and over and down through Texarkana TX on I69/TX59 down through Houston, staying away from I10.

This is the kind of thing fulltimers have to keep in mind, you have to keep an eye on weather where you may be going and stay flexible, change your plans on the fly. So far calling canceling reservations and making new we haven't lost any money.
We don't know where Rafael is going, but if goes anywhere near the gulf states, flooding will be a problem not just wind. People in the Gulf have got hit enough.
It could miss the gulf states totally, but right now spaghetti models looking to head toward Louisiana, Alabama/Florida line. Staying putin TN is better then going anywhere near the gulf.

Smart choice, it was showing to be headed towards New Orleans on this evening news but we all know how quickly things can change. We just got done cleaning our spot from Milton who dumped 3/4s of a great oak on our Cargo trailer. Amazingly none of it penetrated the roof and Helene did not get inside during the surge. We lucked out in those respects.

The park (an ELS property) will not remove debri on yearly sites or in their mobile home communities ..we learned that the hard way this year. IF we ever move parks that will weigh heavy on where we end up and we now know to research all company policies on that where ever it may be. We had a gigantic wood pile (about 20' x 10' by at least 8 ft high) waiting for them to remove..at least they did that this weekend. The last pic is the result of several days hard work! The Gazebo also came through ok and even has a top on it now.

@WhittleBurner , That's a lot to clean up Marcy but looks like you got a handle on it!

As of this morning Rafael Cat2. The forecast is a mess, seems like they don't know where its going to go. I saw one where it makes land in TX near Houston/Galveston. Who knows where its going!

We extended our stay in TN out far enough, now leaving 11/18, that wherever it makes landfall around next Monday, we can adjust. But landfall in or near LA or Gulf Shores AL will flood the area where a lot of land is below sea level. Driving across I10 would be a mess as well.

It's not all bad though, since our initial time here in TN and reunion with military friends took up a lot of our time, extending our stay in TN does gives us more time to get over to Bristol to visit friends there we were going to miss seeing.
We did carve out enough time to leave the RV in Heiskell TN and took a 3 day trip down through the Smoky Mts national park road 441, down through Cherokee NC, then into SC and little towns called 6 Mile and Pickens to visit friends there, beautiful drive! Our friends there live on top of a mountain!
Beautiful mornings, setting out on their veranda, sipping coffee and waking up to their mountain views.

Keep it flexible, keep it real

We usually stop in Pumpkintown, SC (near Pickens) to visit my brother on the way North and South. We love that whole area that borders both south and nortth Carolina and TN.

Western NC and Eastern TN is the only area you can get Sourwood Honey . If you like honey and never had it grab some..

It surely is Marcy. We stopped by Hagood Mill in Pickens SC, near Pumpkintown, and got some corn meal, strawberry/rhubarb and blackberry preserves and some honey. Really good stuff!
