Still no Wood carvers or Burners ??

I build furniture and such. I have put carved designs in some of the pieces. Now that we are retired and have longer trips on the horizon, I plan to bring some smaller projects to work on. All my carving tools fit is a small shallow tub.

Since Marcy started this thread I have been thinking about a friend who does
some very good work (in my opinion). This morning at our ROMEO breakfast (Retired Old Men Eating Out)
I asked Paul for permission to post some of his stuff.
Hope you enjoy:
Bob A.

I’ve just started. Needed something easy to carry and keep my hands busy while watching the Arizona sunsets. They have a “class” (1/2 dozen old guys sitting around telling stories & chipping wood) here at Butterfield Rv in Benson Az. I’ve learned a lot from these guys. Some of it about wood carving <grin>

Wife said get a hobby. I get free wood scraps from a friends cabinet shop, made a couple boards for kids and grandkids. Now I take custom orders….when we are not traveling. Lots of talented people out there making cool stuff, I make sawdust!AA7DC037-F660-4633-ADD8-6C3EAB371346.jpegE46FACB6-7C2E-4D5F-92F2-6F526FC329E7.jpg

Lol , I think all carving groups are like that. Our club back in MI has a few sattlelite groups.. not many get much carving done. But they're all ready and willing to share their craft

Bob - WOW, amazing work that your friend Paul does.....incredible attention and execution to detail.

When I think of wood burning I think of the "toy" I got when I was a kid. The old wood burning kit that would heat up so much you would get third degree burns from the super protective heat resistant cork.

I want to get back into wood working. Issue is I can't hold things too well and I get hurt doing mundane things. Like a cutting knife that I lose the grip on that buries in my foot.

Burners have come a long long way since then, i still have that old hard to hold craft burner but rarely even look at it.

Today's Burners are comfortable , easier to hold and work with. They have temperature controls which make a huge difference. Pictured is one similar of mine, I also have another but a different maker who has since retired.

I was looking into a laser to make a sign for our camping. But it is like a bunch of money to use once. I need to find a true custom place. Not one that you pick the design from a list and they add your name.

Pick up an inexpensve , but not to cheap set of gouges (a cheap set will turn off anyone from carving) and a nice piece of bass wood and start digging in !

I am sure my Wife would love a camping sign with a big "X" on it and blood. My hands can't do it any more. They spasm and things get dropped, broken, etc.

Hi. I'm new to the site. I do wood turning with embellishments. I turn at our home in Prescott, Az. and use carving and wood burning to decorate my work. Can't find room for the lathe on the road. My wife's sewing machine takes up our spare space. Dan
Pictures ?? I drag carving/woodburning and quilting/sewing. I drew the line at dragging my rocks and tumbler lol. Almost the whole back wall cabinets is dedicated to hobbie stuff. Finally got Gary to try carving so had to make room for a small bag of tools for him.

A couple of ornaments and a bowl. Dan
