First, is it necessary to run SURGE PROTECTOR when plugged into generator? Second, when surge protector is plugged into generator I get a fault reading of reverse polarity, normal? Third, or do i need a surge/voltage protector?

Any suggestion? Thanks!!!

I would be very concerned about the reverse polarity indication from your generator. If it truly is reversed, you could damage items such as your microwave or AC. I always use electrical protection, no matter what the power source is. The model I use is a Progressive Industries EMS-PT50C.

A quality surge protector will also protect against low voltage . . . which is just as damaging to electrical devices and probably the more likely condition with either shore or generator sources. Reverse polarity is a serious problem that should not be present with any power source.
