We did the same upgrade. We travel with dogs and the ability to monitor the temperature, set alarms, and change the temperature as needed is awesome. We use the Wi-Fi and the app on the phone to control it.

I agree, I've had the microair thermostat on my center A/C unit for about 4 years now and it's been flawless. I keep a MiFi hotspot in the trailer and can monitor it while we are gone via the phone app......tis awesome.

Truly is a much better thermostat than the junk Furion. That’s what we have, WiFi in the trailer. Thermostat, another temp/humidity/power monitor and a camera to keep n eye on things while we are away.

I have thought about installing the Micro-Aire thermostats too. I have the newer version of the Furrion thermostats now. This thermostat has the furnace sensor under the thermostat.

Last time I stayed in the trailer, I had the heat on 82 degrees and the indoor thermometer registered 72 degrees. I tried adjusting the fan mode several different ways but it didn’t help much.

I know the sensor for the A/C is in the ceiling unit which also presents its own set of issues.

If I replace both thermostats with the Micro-Aire thermostats, does it solve the issues with the furnace and A/C sensors?

IMO....no.

We replaced both of our OEM thermostats with MicroAir units in our 295RL. We only use ours for AC, and not heat.

The positives we found:
Better modern user interface and control. Wifi accessable (would recommend a Wifi router for best mobile connection). Fairly easy install and setup. Works well for AC dump usage.

The negatives:
Costly replacement. When used with ceiling race track system (AC), have found some rooms colder than others. Using thermostat for manual settings, have found them to be a little quirky when switching modes (i.e. going from fan mode to fan/AC mode) - found letting screen return to menu by itself after setting mode saves manual mode settings... didnt read that anywhere (ours wont save using return function).

Wish it hads: Ability to add remote sensors like an Ecobee. Or, communicate or pair with another MicroAir thermostat in use. This is so it could adust for temp in a particular area when using the race track system. Also be more balanced cooling throughout RV - IMO, not different than performance from my OEM thermostats in that regard.

As for heat, we FHU camp and always use our electric fireplace and 2 heaters (1 IR wall mount and 1 ceramic portable in lower dinning room area) while running the (upper) bedroom AC fan only for race track circulation. Works well in cold temps down to low 40's.

Thanks Jim.

You addressed my concern. The Micro-Aire thermostat is a lot of money not to address the problem completely.

Do you run your furnace with the OEM thermostat?

I use my “fireplace” heater a lot but I do not want use it while I am sleeping.

Thanks for your service. Greatly appreciated.

I have before we realized that we could get by with all electric heat - plus cheaper than LP when included with site cost.... but, since we always FHU camp from only April to October we typically use only the fp, IR wall heater (which we mount under our dinning room table on the slide out wall) and a small ceramic portable space heater we keep on our kitchen island.

I know trusting the electric use may be a little concerning while sleeping.... but, what isnt in these things. LOL!

I've spent plenty of money on various gadgets so I don't know why, but the Micro Air is more frustrating to me because it seems to be a hyper inflated price. I mean you can buy a perfectly good Honeywell wifi thermostat for $80 for the house, garage, etc. Why can't we get a simple wifi thermostat like that for an RV? I've thought about just testing one by running a wire from the battery bank to the "C" wire on a Honeywell thermostat to see if it works, but haven't gotten around to it yet. I'll likely cave and get the MicroAir since nobody else seems to be coming out with a cheaper alternative. Just a nonsensical rant I guess...:)

Why not? It’s only a fancy electric space heater after all.
My last Reflection 315 RLTS burned down six months ago. I don’t know the cause of the fire and I don’t think it was related to the heater. However, I am a bit gun shy now of anything that could potentially start a fire.

So what do u use for heat that’s safer?
I can understand the concern for space heaters. I'm not sure if the built in fireplaces are on their own circuit or not; I hope so. But as for space heaters, people may not realize just how many outlets can be daisy chained on the same circuit. In ours, every outlet is in one long circuit with the exception of the microwave. I'm going to change that in the spring, but from the factory, if you max the circuit with a space heater it's not hard to believe plugging other things in could result in melted wire casings or worse if the breaker doesn't flip as it should. It's not a bad thing to be wary...

So an open flame is safer than an electrically protected space heater?
I don’t think there is any mechanical heating system that is totally safe whether it is gas or electric. But I feel safer with the propane furnace than I do with an electric heater.
Knowing GD installs ‘low end’ equipment in these trailers, I don’t trust most of the appliances installed.
I don’t really consider the furnace to be an open flame appliance. I know the furnace burns a flame but it is enclosed. When you say open flame I think of the old wall heaters we had in the house where I grew up. I have one of these in a rental house but it was disconnected many years ago.
I am no HVAC expert but I hear of fires started by space heaters a lot more than gas furnaces.
