Thinking about getting a new hitch

Hello all,

I am upgrading my tow rig, and will need to either buy a rail kit, oem adapter, or a turnover mounted hitch. I currently have a reese 16k slider, and I really like the "Always ready to receive" function. Which is not having to open the jaws to hook up.

I have been looking at the B&W companion. My question is, is the B&W a "Always ready to receive" hitch? It looks like it could be due to the shape if the jaws.

Not exactly sure what a "Always ready to receive" hitch is, but you have to open the lever to allow the hitch to receive the trailer pin. It's an excellent hitch and is easy to hook up. When the arm comes closed, it's hitched.

Ready to receive means I can back under the kingpin without having to open the jaws. Screenshot_20231214_222606_Chrome.png

I believe it would fit your idea of always ready to receive. When disconnecting, you open the arm and pull away. Once you have pulled away the jaws stay in a position ready to hitch back up....unless you manually close them for some reason.

I agree. The arm will stay back unless you move it. Not sure why that's important though.

When we used our Reese 16k "ready to recieve" style hitch on our 5er, it was nice not to have remembered to also open the jaws when connecting. You just aligned and backed up. The only issue was that if using our unlocked Turning Point pinbox it required an almost perfect alignment to connect properly each time - practice did help over time!

With our Demco autoslide, we now have to remember to open the jaws prior. Not a BD, but an extra step.

Both had given us good service. But the Demco's flexability with rotation movement for slight pinbox alignment issues made it flawless to hookup since day one.

I like the idea of the demco, however I don't even use my reese slider as it is, and due to size and weight it'd be a bear to take in and out everytime. We are normally just weekenders, not full timers so I need the bed during the week.

Totally agree on the Demco weight. We leave it in full time. But others have used block and tackles/hoist to lift in and out. Still a PITA for those needing bed space.
