Threw out the crappy Thomas Payne Collection furniture!

Going to save that link for when we need to shop for furniture. We usually just get residential but with the odd setup in our 395 we might have to go with something similar to stock.

Please post updates as time goes on.

Thanks for sharing

jim1521 - I have tried contacting RecPro without much luck. They have a “chat” feature on their website . . . but no one answers. I left them an email at their “contact us” tab . . . that was yesterday. No answer.

I was going to suggest to them that there will about 400 GDRV owners at a rally just down the road in a couple of weeks . . . many of whom might be thinking about replacement furniture . . . do you have a contact at RecPro who might be interested?

Rob

Rob, I spoke with RecPro today. I explained the situation, and they're having a guy named "Matt" give me a call for more details. As soon as I hear from him, I'll pass it along.

Hi Jim - Thanks for the follow-up. I will PM you with my email and cell phone. RecPro should be able to cross reference these with my email from a few days ago.

So Rob, is your furniture breaking down? Our furniture is 3 1/3 years old and very heavily used and not a flaw to be found.

Hi Paul,

The "fake leather" surfaces of our furniture are still fine (touch wood). The "structure" underneath leaves a lot to be desired. The seat areas of the recliners are sagging outboard. More so mine than Cates :). (Little guys like you probably don't have this problem :D.) The rear couch has never been really comfortable . . . either as a couch or as a bed. We have looked at some aftermarket RV furniture . . . that is more expensive than residential furniture! The RecPro prices on their website seem to be a lot more reasonable. I would certainly like to try (and examine the structure of) the RecPro products before buying.

Okay, I hear ya. I never sit or sleep on the couch so there's that. Our grandsons don't seem to mind it. I do like the look of the RecPro but I can't see spending the money without need. I always read these complaints and am always hesitant to ask why people complain so much. Maybe I'll understand at some point but I've been lucky so far.

Ours is 4 & 1/2 years old and doesn't show any wear yet either. Marcy did reupholster the dining chairs with extra padding to make them more comfortable. Like Rob we have had complaints about the couch when made into a bed.

Rob, did Matt ever reach out to you?

Separate discussion, but I just got notified that 2019 Forest River Riverstone Fifth Wheels are dropping the Thomas Payne Collection and going with Praxis. Don't know anything about them, but that's a big step away from LCI. Good to see that some manufacturers are apparently listening.

Hi Jim - Never heard anything from Matt (or anybody else) at RecPro. I guess they are too busy to be interested in the 400 GDRV products just down the road with their 800 owners . . . many of whom are considering new furniture options..

Amazing!... (was apparently too short of a message, so I've added this wonderful color commentary in order to respond)

Response from RecPro Furniture

Matthew at RecPro finally got back to Jim (jim1521) who forwarded the message to me. RecPro does not have a showroom at their facility, but are prepared to show their furniture to anyone at the Rally who is interested in stopping by. We are planning to head over there at 1:00 PM tomorrow (Thursday) for anyone who wants to come along. Matthew did say in his email that they would offer "a large discount" to customers picking up at their factory.

Did anybody get over to RecPro to see their stuff? Would be interested in feedback of their overall operation (how big, how much inventory, etc.).

Hi Jim,

I did make contact with Matt Pico at RecPro, but he got back to me so late that only ourselves and one other couple made the trip over to visit their facility.

Steve & Mary . . . sorry that I missed your message, as you would have been more than welcome to join us.

The RecPro facility in Bristol is a large warehouse, but not a furniture manufacturing facility. Matt did say that they stock every piece of furniture in their catalog and can ship within hours. From everything we saw, this looks to be true.

It took a bit of coaxing, but Matt did say that all of their products are manufactured "off shore". Construction looked very similar to Lippert products , but perhaps a little better. I thought the construction was better (although difficult to really tell on new vs our 4 year old LCI). Cate (the seamstress) pointed out better seam locations that would prevent the pull apart that we see in our original pieces. RecPro has a 3 year warranty on covering material and 5 year warranty on structure/mechanisms.

The RecPro furniture is very modular and can be combined in many different ways. We are now thinking towards 4 individual recliners. Two in the slide to replace the current joined pair and two at the back with a table between them. Four really comfortable seating locations would work better for us than the pullout couch that is not really comfortable as a couch or a bed. Of note, the RecPro pullout bed is much more substantial (and probably a lot more comfortable) than the LCI pullout.

Pricing is substantially better than LCI. Comparing "best offer" from LCI at their Rally display and RecPro online prices. Picking up at their warehouse knocks $50 of the price of each component.

Summary . . . This is still RV furniture (which is important for getting it through the RV door) but is definitely better quality than LCI was providing 4 years ago. Overall, Cate & I agree that the quality is similar to what LCI is providing today, but at significantly lower cost.

We just picked up our 297rsls at the end of October and have removed the couch to add a desk for my wife. We are having new seat and back cushions made with more dense foam and covered in a durable cloth for the booth dinette. We have been looking for a replacement for the theater seating in cloth or microfiber, but have only found residential type and the one we really like weighs 287 pounds. Does anybody know what the weight limit is for the living room slide? We do have a set of slide out supports we plan on using when we are setup for more than a few days. I should add that my wife and I together weigh about 500 pounds, so the weight capacity of the slide out is a big deal to us. Thanks for any help anyone can give.

If anyone is interested, my wife and i just found about a half dozen different la-z-boy power reclining love seat models that fit nicely in place of the cheap thomas pane collection theater seating. The one we are looking at is from the "pinnacle" collection. It is 57" wide, needs about 6" from wall to recline, and weighs 175 pounds. The price varies with the material selected. You should be able to order one from any la-z-boy dealer. It doesn't appear that we will be able to get ours before we head for texas in late january due to the factory shutting down 12/06 for about 3 weeks, but we will be getting one when we return in march or april. I hope this information helps someone in their search for the perfect trailer.

Actually, after reading this whole thread, I like your solution the best. After all, how does anyone know if RecPro is any better than Lippert. Both are made “offshore” meaning China and probably the same factory - I mean, they do look similar. RecPro is cheaper but is it as good as or better than Lippert. I haven’t done any research, but when the time comes to replace, I’ll be looking at laz-e-boy - I know their quality is good and the fabric selection is fantastic. The price? You get what you pay for.

Isn't it funny how some manufacturers will slap some name on a product to market it? I always wondered who "Thomas Payne" is or was and why his name would be on furniture. It turns out he was a wino on the streets of Philly that built recliners out of old pallets and cardboard.

I think he still over see's production.

Then who is Eddie Bauer????
More to the point, I once googled RV salvage yards and BAM! Depending on your location there are a lot of high end RV's just waiting to picked over. One could refurbish their rig with some really nice stuff!!
